I have a friendly neighborhood cat that eats w my feral colony. She's an older cat named Puzzle and her owner is an elderly lady without many resources. Puzzle has chronic gastritis and about once a month her mouth becomes so inflamed her tongue hangs out, she drools smelly saliva, and it looks very painful. Because of this, Puzzle hasn't been grooming herself and I'm concerned with the incoming warm weather Puzzle's lack of hygiene is going to attract flies/maggots. I've taken Puzzle to the vet twice and they diagnosed her w gastritis and gave her convenia and famotidine injections, which helped a lot - then the gastritis creeps back in after a while. Any suggestions for inexpensive vets in order to get these meds for Puzzle? Or any other recommendations for chronic gastritis? I care for a lot of neighborhood cats and just don't have the money for monthly vet visits. I also have a hard time cleaning Puzzle and her fur is dark and matted. Any tips on washing the nasty gunk off of her?

Thanks in advance [emoji]10084[/emoji]

Maybe you could get her shaved?  Some groomers will do cats if they will allow it.  If she won't allow it maybe the vet could give her a sedative and then do it for her.  I remember when I was getting one of my cats shaved a shaving would last for several months.

Famotidine is Pepcid.  If you can pill her you could give her the human form.  It needs to be regular strength and not complete just plain old regular strength.  I gave it to Patches many years ago but I don't remember the dose, you will need to ask the vet.  It would have to be given daily and you will need to split the pills.
