After giving birth, why does my cat keeps growling?

My cat gave birth and the kittens are all okay. They're sleeping together under my bed on a blanket.

My cat Luna will come up and purr and cuddle with me... Basically her normal happy self... Then if she hears any movement from the kittens below us she'll growl, go to them, and growl a bit more under the bed. She's feeding them and purrs around them too, so its not like she hates them. Just wondering if this is normal for her to growl? Thanks.

It sounds like mom is being protective of her kittens by growling to let any "predators" know to stay away! It's her maternal instincts kicking in. [emoji]128571[/emoji]
