Trying to look through here on what everyone likes. We recently switched from friskies to fancy feast medleys. Our cat hasn't been happier! I personally would like to go to blue Buffalo but she seems really happy with this. I just wanna make sure she's getting healthy food. She's really picky and will only eat meaty morsels. Opinions???

As long as your cat is not having any bad issues with ff and loves it, stick with it. I feed ff classic 2X a day and have never had any issues. My cat loves it. As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Ya she absolutely loves it, and I've noticed her mood has greatly improved and her social anxiety has lessened greatly all in two weeks. I just wondered how real the food was or just cornmeal haha the ingredients seem lengthy but she loves it!!!

The first ingredient in ff classics is meat. No soy, fruits or vegetables, which cats don't need. Overall, I think it is a good choice and my cat has stayed very healthy on this diet.

With wheat and cornstarch in the ingredients, FF medleys aren't necessarily ideal but they still seem better than a lot of foods! The fancy feast classic pates are nice because they have no carbohydrate fillers, and I believe Sheba pates are similar, but both of those are pate style rather than chunks in a gravy. The blue buffalo formulas do not seem considerably better at all, still relying on carbs like potatoes and rice.

Tiki cat makes really healthy broth & chunk style food, but it is very pricey for a small amount of food. Many of the Weruva lines are also very good about having few carbs and a variety of textures. Otherwise, it's hard to think of non-pates that don't use at least some plants starches, so if the FF medleys are what your cat prefers, then that is probably pretty good. I think Wellness also has some good shredded-type recipes. They still use some potato, but they tend to just have one major carbohydrate ingredient, whereas the Medleys have two which is significantly more.

I was discussing that with my vet assistant this morning, as I do feed FF Classic  or Pate in Canada and very happy with that . She does the same also, but she says she feeds twice a week non Pate or Classic to help with the hairballs. Is it true that FF containing grain is better for hairballs than grain free, or is it just some opinion ?

That sounds like a myth to me. Cats naturally eat little to no plant material, and their digestive systems aren't set up to process carbs. Cat grass is probably a better alternative to give a bit of fiber to "push through" the hairballs if that's something you think your cat needs. Cornstarch and similar fillers are not going to help with that at all.

My cats have no need for either. They seem doing fine on wet food, and I do give once a week a hairball remedy for maintenance, although I hear bad thing about those products. Anyway, i do not wish to hijack the thread, so we'll stick to the fancy feast  product. My cats will eat any flavor they love it ( I stick to the non grain pate and one flaked grain free flavor available). Only thing, compared to used to feed raw before: one cat has smelly but solid stools, and the other two are fine.

Grains don't do anything for hairball prevention.

Sometimes there are flax seeds in some of the canned. I wonder if that does anything to help? Considering it probably just goes right through them? Literally.......right to the litter box..

Yeah likely it's some kind of fiber, because cats don't benefit from any of the omegas in flax seeds like humans do.
