My cat has never tried to eat my houseplants, and I keep most of them on the windowsill where he wouldn't be able to reach (he's lazy, so I doubt he'd try either way!) I was wanting to get a calla lily but read that they were poisonous to cats. Is it safe for me to get the plant and keep it out of reach, or should I risk it? Are there any plants in specific that are not harmful to cats that I could get? Thanks!!

I wouldn't risk getting a lily. I've heard that even the pollen from lilies can be harmful.

Spider plants and Chistmas cactus are fine. Spider plants may cause minor tummy troubles so they end up on some no-no lists but it's not fatal or even very severe. Christmas cactuses are fully edible.

Grow some avena sativa, or wild common oats, that your cat will be attracted to munching on and that will be beneficial to him.  Then, he might not be as interested in other "safe" houseplants.

Apparently, spider plants are mildly hallucinogenic, like catnip, which is why cats like nibbling them.  Spider plant tea, anyone?
