Hi everyone, this is my first post here.

My two-year-old kitty, Layla, has just had an operation to remove an impacted hairball. The op was successful but she had an allergic reaction to the dissolvable stitches - her belly swelled up with liquid - so they had to open her up and use other material. The same thing happened again so they used very expensive suture material. Now it's happening yet again - she has some fluid moving around near the stitching and it's hot to the touch and uncomfortable for her. The vet's now suggested we administer cortisone and wait and see until Friday, and perhaps open her up again and use surgical glue, although she's not sure it can be used internally! I am at my wit's end! Also don't understand it as she didn't have a bad reaction when she was spayed. Is it possible they can develop immune system responses when older? Also, what else could be done to help my poor little kitten?

I don't have any concrete advice but an incision that is got to the touch and is red, could also indicate infection. Has the vet seen it since turning red

I think you're getting into the technicalities that only a Vet will be able to answer for you.  They should know all the forms used to close open wounds.

As far as developing allergies to things they weren't allergic to earlier in life, yes, that can happen.

Thanks. There doesn't appear to be any infection, it's more internal swelling. Her tummy is hot to the touch. :(

Thanks. Good to know that they can in fact develop such allergies. Otherwise I would think something else might be going on!

Hi I had allergic reactions to to suture material too, with me it had to with silicon  which was used in the material .What i would do  is go to the vet and ask for a tiny piece of all the suture materials they've used every time, so not only the one used last , go with this to a homeopath and ask him to make a remedy for the allergic reaction, this is the best thing to do. Also if he makes it , ask if they can make it with alcohol so you will be able to keep it very long, they also use sugar globules but those expire after 2 years, the alcohol keeps indefinately . It would only require after about 3 years if you use it, to up the dose a bit. to tell you the truth i did not believe in homeopathy untill i became very sick and nothing worked but homeopathy , had the same experience with one of my cats so i'm a converted believer now.

Wish you and your cat all the best and love.YOu can also use colloidal silver i may not say this because this site is run by Big Pharma people and they don´t want you to know alternative stuff so i wont be posting anymore .I hope your cat gets better and i hope people who act as if they want to help animals and only want to push big pharma stuff burn in hell for it :**** Them!!
