Ok, so I have quite a few cats. Two of them are mothers of newborn kittens. Both are experienced to say the least. One mother, Graymon, had her kittens a few days after the other mother, S. Graymon had her first kitten of this litter in the tub, then later moved them to a new place. I noticed she wasn't staying by her kitten and slightly scolded her. I realized that throughout the rest of the evening and night, she had about four more. She then began taking care of all four. The next day, in the morning, they were crying loudly and I noticed a cat near them so I chased him away. The mother was with them at that point. As the day went on I noticed the kittens were no longer crying. I checked on them and they weren't there. Pretty soon, everyone was looking for these missing kittens, nobody found them. They weren't by S, the other mother cat. I have no idea where they went. That night, Graymon, was crying in the same place that she had the kittens. I let her outside because when I asked where her kittens were, she led me to the door. She hadn't gone out all day, so I let her out for a bit. She seems to have calmed, but I still can't find the missing kittens. She's no longer looking for them. Any ideas as to where she might have taken them or done to them? I have heard stories of cats eating their babies and other cats eating the kittens. Seeing as she's had three other litters and hasn't done this, I don't really think this is a plausible explanation. Thanks in advance.

Nasty situation if there are no immediate answers.  Its true a momma MAY eat up her babies if she notices they are sick or dead.  its to protect the surviving from predators.   A momma in extreme stress may also kill her kittens.   Its not common other cats eat up the kittens.  Even hostile toms dont eat them, "just" may shake them to death....

Its common a momma may carry away her kittens to hide them better... But it doesnt seem so here..  Continue to search.  Continue to let momma have allowance out.  Healthy kittens may survive even over a full day outside.

Btw, she had two different batches?  does she take care of the first batch?  Whom she at first moment didnt care much off, because she had more kittens to deliver???    If so concentrate on what can be saved...

If she doenst care for them, and the other momma cant help out, YOU must take charge and handraise them...

And in a longer run, please plan on spaying them....

You have to follow her to find those kittens, I have a feeling because of the other cat she hid them somewhere. Is it possible at all she got them carried outside? If not you should take one room at a time and look EVERYWHERE, cats are very good at getting into weird places, like up under the boxsprings of a bed through a small hole, or under furniture, or behind the stove. Please keep us posted.

Ok. The kittens were found! She had hidden them in a closet that had a few boxes in it. Tney are safe, we relocated them to a safer place and she is with them. Thanks for the help!

So glad you found them!

Would you like help finding a low cost spay and neuter center in your area?

Can you keep the moms inside and away from intact males?

It's very hard on them to have litter after litter.
