Pepper has bony spondylosis (bone spurs growing along her spine). She was just diagnosed this week. Two bone spurs are pressing against the nerves leading to her back legs, creating lameness and a lot of pain (imagine having sciatica down both legs all the time). Her quadraceps have atrophied considerably and she can no longer sit on her butt when she "sits" down (she sits on her side instead). She is still very perky and sweet, but tries to move as little as possible. She cannot stand up longer than it takes to move a few feet.

Why am I doing this? Because she, along with her brother, Tater Tot, and my other cat, Pie, have brought me from the edge and back. They were my therapy when I had my hemorrhagic stroke. They have been there for me when I felt I couldn't go on. Pepper is the sweetest cat yo uwill ever meet and she really loves me unconditionally. Her favorite place to sleep is in the crook of my arm, her head on my shoulder so she can reach her paw out and pat my face. She deserves to live without pain. With this surgery, she can regain full use of her legs and be pain-free. I'm doing this because I believe, barring any other disease, that the surgery will allow her to live at least another 4 years, possibly longer.

Pepper and Tater Tot came into my life right after I had lost a 4-month old kitten during a routine neutering surgery (he had an undiagnosed heart condition). I needed to do something with my grief, so I when I found out about 2 two-week old kittens needing to be bottle-fed I travelled 5 hours up to Augusta, Ga., to pick them up. On the way home, they both started bleeding and I immediately called my vet to let them know I was coming straight in. They had coccidia and were very sick. The vet told me that they probably wouldn't live. But they did, and they thrived under my love and care.

The funds raised will go directly towards her surgery (and recovery if any additional funding is raised). I will gladly provide a copy of the estimate to anyone who would like to see it. I need to get the surgery done as soon as possible because she's losing more and more of her mobillity as the days pass. She seems to be in a lot of pain, but she's such a little trooper.

Please help me save my baby. Please help relieve her pain.

I'm in the middle of trying to figure out how to change a PDF file to a pic, so I can post the estimate to her site. Until then, I can always forward the Word doc of the PDF (I had to remove my personal address) to you.

Help spread the word! Thank you!
