We're going to buy a Roman shade for the kitchen window. Since the house was built to the northeast of us, the people up there can look down at night and see everything I'm doing in the kitchen. We keep the drapes shut at the French doors once it gets dark. Rick has been wanting a window covering at the sink, but I never have and always fought him on it. I love my window and I love being able to cook and look out in the back yard. But now, well, it's a little uncomfortable since that house was built.

We went to Lowes and didn't really find much. JCP didn't really have much either. My sister and I went to several decorating centers in the area, looking for window treatments, but didn't like much of them at all. I started checking out Home Depot. And found this: https://blinds.homedepot.com/p/hampton-bay-classic-roman-shades/206271781?id=206271781. We would also get the black out liner. No cords; with our cats, that's just an accident waiting to happen.

I kind of want something in a red, but not sure if it would look OK. Our kitchen is painted Sage Green and our granite countertops have a lot of chocolates, browns, and cinnamon colors. I want a color that might give a bit of a pop.

I really like the stripes of the Gobi Desert Sun 1043 and am really leaning toward that. So does Dear Richard.

But I also like the floral pattern of the Floral Garnet 967. (If you click on the pattern and then hover over the magnifying glass, you'll get a larger picture.

I have looked at Levolar and at Bali products. I really can't find a pattern that I like and I'm the one who's going to be looking (and, no doubt, hating) that blasted shade for the rest of my natural born days. I really don't want anything, but realize that, with that darn house behind us, we need to do something. It would only be closed at night and in the early morning when we're making the cats' breakfast.

Gosh, I don't like window treatments. And I love the light that comes in through the window. Even a small, narrow valance will cut down on the light a bit. I'm thankful for the sun tunnels in the kitchen because that really helps with natural light!

Ideas? Opinions? Yuck? No way? Well, maybe?

I always like to look at Smith+Noble for window treatment ideas. The products are expensive but really nice and worth dreaming about. You can get free samples of certain things: fabric swatches, honeycomb shade swatches, etc.
