I have been feeding 5 cats in our feral community since they were about 8 weeks old and still nursing. Once Mom was done with them I provided shelter on my covered back porch plus a feral cat house.  In November I took the 3 tamest cats to the vet to be fixed.   I picked up the 2 boys on a Friday evening and the female I picked up on Saturday. They all did great and adjusted OK to being inside although the 2 boys were happy to get released on that 3rd day.  I had to keep the female inside longer since she was a spay.  Well, I had lost my 19 year old cat about 11 years before this and we just fell in love with our little Tippy Toes and could not bare the thought of turning her outside with the rest of the community.  So she has not gone outside since then and I have continued to feed and care for the outside cats.  The vet had given all 3 the Capstar pill when they came in to be fixed and I did not follow-up and actually thought the Capstar would kill everything on the 3 and no more fleas.  Had them sleeping in my bed and they were confined to the bedroom only. So in December I started seeing flea dust on Tipper and purchased a flea comb and was getting fleas off of her. I flea combed her several times a day and kept washing covers and throws that were on the sofa and chair she enjoys sleeping in. I went back to the vet and got a few more Capstar pills and thought maybe this would work but it did not and we continued to comb off fleas. This last trip to the vet I had a long discussion with the vet and decided to use the Revolution topical.  I still continued washing up the bedding and sweeping the house and mopping the floors every few days.  So it has been about 1 week since she had the application and I am still combing off fleas (not very many)  but they are all very small and move very slowly.  I am just wondering how long it might take to totally rid the house and the cat of these fleas. It really looks like we are getting towards the end of it because the only ones I am getting are very small and I am not seeing any adults fleas at all.   I plan to continue to treat her with Revolution but was hopeful that there would come a time if she is not going outside at that we would not have to use it. I realize the life cycle of a flea takes time to break down but has anyone used Revolution and then able to stop using it because you are flea free????

I use revolution year-round. Even an indoor cat can get fleas if any manage to get in the house. It's definitely easier to prevent fleas than to get rid of them once you have them, although I understand Revolution is expensive. I would suggest at least using Revolution in the warm months, depending on the climate and woodsy-ness of your area.

Fleas are a common way to get tapeworms, and also revolution prevents heartworm, a mosquito-borne disease that cannot be treated in cats. Revolution does stay in the system for several months in decreasing amounts, so your cat will have some protection even after you stop. It's a judgement call. It is very safe for cats so there is worry in over doing it, at least.
