My cat has something going in with his mouth today after I fed him breakfast. When he opens his mouth (to groom, for example) it almost looks and sounds like his teeth are grinding and he has to work to close his mouth. He eats Prey Model raw for breakfast and today he had rabbit chunks (raw, meaty rabbit bones) with organ.

I've already made an appointment with the vet, it is tomorrow at 9:30am.

I just wanted to get with you guys too since I'm such a worry-wart. Does my explanation sound like he might have cracked a tooth? Has anyone ever experienced this?

He's been on a raw diet for almost 3 years now and I've never had a problem with raw bones before. Every time we go to the vet for his annual wellness checkup, my vet has always commented on how great my cat's teeth look.

It could be, it could also be a pulled muscle in his jaw causing his bite to be off and his teeth to grind. I've never had any experience with broken teeth so hopefully someone will come along with some better answers. However I do remember getting my tonsils taking out when I was younger and the dentist pulled a muscle in my jaw by over extending it. It caused a grinding sound that drove me nuts and made it difficult to move my jaw for about a month.

UPDATE

I just got back from the vet and there is no broken tooth or issue with his mouth at all. We couldn't recreate the problem that I was seeing at home so the vet said he may have just had something stuck in his mouth that he was able to dislodge, possibly. I was overreacting, as usual.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad all is well with my little man

That's great! Your not overreacting if you notice something off and seek treatment or advice for it.
