I'm at my wit's end, and about to get rid of my cat.

He wants to be high. We have bookshelves, nearly broken because he uses them to leap to the valance on the blinds--which he's also broken. Now he's getting on top of the cabinets in the dining room so that he can jump on the ceiling fan.

We bought him a tall cat tree, and he barely uses it. Toys galore, and he doesn't care about any of it. I don't know what to do anymore, except get rid of him or let him go outside and hope he remembers where we live, to come back.

We bought a new cat, male, same age (the first cat behaved badly before the new one arrived), and the first cat keeps biting the butt on the second cat, so the cat wants nothing to do with him.

Are your cats neutered? How old are they? Do you play with them? Your destructive cat sounds bored.

You might try some  'shelves' built staggered up the wall from his cat tree, I have even seen ledges all the way around a ceiling fro cats to walk on, it looks nice, like a decorating scheme, he is a climber and needs heights. You might try a large dog kennel outside taht has climbing posts in it, he would like that too.  I hope you find a solution it would be a shame to get rid of him because he likes to climb. Is he young? If so, he will settle down withn age too, around three, I pray you'll give him a chance.

When I first read the title to this thread I envisioned your cat sneaking into your purse and stealing money to support his catnip habit!  That image made me laugh so thanks for that!
