If a cat is allergic to chicken, would that include "dried egg product"? My cat might be allergic to chicken, and it's near impossible to find a chicken free food that I can afford (or that she'll eat).
Hey, I'm sorry you're having trouble with your cat's allergies. It is possible to be allergic to both chickens and eggs so I would eliminate both just in case.
As far as food and cost go, I would have a look at Chewy.com. They have lower prices than pet stores do.
I don't know any brands specifically that are without egg and chicken so hopefully an expert can chime in
Yup, Chewy is where I get my food. With kibble and canned for grain free, it was $40 a month for all 3 cats (plus a feral I give 1/2 cup kibble to). Which is fine. But now chicken free is going to be way more!
Purina One sensitive has turkey as it's meat, but also the dried egg product. A couple of the other flavors have turkey as the main ingredient, but ALSO "poultry by-product", which I assume would have chicken in it. AURGH!
Also, I find it odd that in their description it says no fillers... but you look at the ingredients and it has corn, soy, wheat, and oat meals! So much for no fillers.
I would also consider getting ground rabbit from Hare Today, because I could afford a month supply of that. BUT I don't want to spend $60 and not have her eat that, either (already wasted $20 on the Natural Balance Pea & Duck...she won't eat any, and my other cats barely nibble at it. Will have to sneak it in by mixing with new kibble I get...oooor, I'm sure my feral would eat it)
While you can be allergic to both chicken and egg I wouldn't say they are necessarily linked. My Dad is allergic to all poultry/fowl in general but has absolutely no problem with eggs. I would see how she reacts to egg before ruling it out.
Allergies are fun things because sometimes it is not as cut and dry as the entire animal or item. For example, I can eat all the raw tomatoes and cooked tomato based items. But you mix tomatoes with any sort of vinegar into a marinade or dressing and I will be a hive covered mess. Yet, I can eat vinegar or things with vinegar on its own. Go figure. Since by the time my grandma passed away she had so many food allergies we had to sign a waiver for her nursing home to feed her I will probably develop more fun allergies as I get older. Joy (please apply liberal sarcasm).
My cats both eat Nature Balance Chicken and Pea formula. I think it was an acquired taste but they both seem to enjoy it mixed with their wet food.
And boy do I feel you Kieka. I don't have any food allergies but mine include Penicillin, Amoxicillin, bee stings and other kinds of medicines that I've been tested for.
My brother on the other hand is allergic to latex and we didn't find this out until he went to the emergency room and the nurse almost killed him with sanitary gloves.
