I'm at my wit's end...which fortunately is a pretty short trip for me.

Is if okay to give some kind of fish oil supplement to a cat with FLUTD?  And if so, what would you recommend, and what dosage?

Buddy has been having a bit of trouble lately with dry, itchy skin, which may be our fault.  We're not used to having to run the heater here during the winter, so we kinda forgot about having to run the humidifier to put some moisture back into the air.

Oh, and he also has FIV and FHV, in case that makes any difference re: what you might suggest.  Might as well cover more than one base at the same time if possible.

Yes, it's ok to use fish oil.  Whole different ball game.  You can use salmon oil, sardine oil, krill oil, anything you want that HE will eat.  I'm guessing you want to add it on top of his food.  I've found that regular "fish oil" capsules don't go over well with cats, but you can try them.   if you buy the stuff for animals, the dosage will be on the container.  Often they come in pump bottles so you give one or two pumps.  When I was giving Krill Oil, I gave each cat one full capsule per day, but sometimes you need to start out with a smaller dosage to get them used to it.

Just have a quick question...

I vaguely seem to recall reading somewhere that if you add fish oil to a cat's food, you also need to add vitamin E as well.  Is that correct, or does it depend on the brand you use?

We're very much interested in trying this, but just want to make sure we do it right. ;-)

You could be right, @mrsgreenjeens.  I've read so much stuff lately, I can't remember where I read it.

We're kinda sorta leaning toward trying the krill oil first, since if we understand correctly, it might be of more benefit to Buddy's overall immune system health.  Decisions, decisions!
