I have been a cat mom for 3 years now.
I have kept this stray cat I once found and I started loving him and became a cat person.
Before this ,I have never had any attachments to any animals.

My cats age is around 5 years old.
He now weighs 3 kg cause he is sick.

In all my years. I have never seen him sick.
This is my first time.

It started last week when he had problems pooping.
I noticed he would strain and nothing would come out.
He would constantly go to the litter box.

Then one day he climbed to my neighbors house and was there overnight. I live in an apartment.
It was raining the whole day and he could have been soaked outside.

When he got back home.
He was different.

He now refuses to eat dry food.
Doesn't even show interest in wet food.
He still does drink water.

I took him to the goverment vet.
And they gave him fluids.
Also shots of antibiotics and vitamins.
His body temperature is low.

Ever since yesterday he has been weakest.
He's back legs seem weak.
He can't walk properly.
He can't use the litter box and keeps peeing on himself.
His body is cold.
His breathing is slow.

I keep him by my side incase of anything.

This morning.he manged a soft meow.
Something I haven't heard in a while.
He is always in crouched position.
I would layer him with 1/2 cloths to keep him warm.
His paws are cold.

I don't know what to do.
I have taken off from work to look after my Tiger.

He doesnt eat so I take wetfood. About a spoonful. Mix it with warm water and syringe it for him.
Im trying my hardest to get him well.

Please let me know what else more can I do to comfort him.

Ive laid the litter box beside him.
Food and water at his easy acess. As he would drink water constantly from time to time.
How do I help my cat regain his strength.

He is not of old age yet.
And im not gonna give up on him.
I will do my best till he is well again.

Please offer suggestions or whatsoever you think I can do for my tiger. And his condition.

Thank you

Is it possible when he was outside that he ate something poisonous? We usually advocate here to keep cats inside as there are so many dangers outside.

He sounds extremely sick & I wonder whether it would be better to put him to sleep? What exactly does the vet say? So many vets pump them full of God knows what, but have no clue what is ailing the cat.

Im not sure of that. He has been upstairs before but never came back in this condition.
Vet is giving him medication. In case he ate something wrong.
But what worries the vet says is his absolute low body temp.

My vet says not much can be done and to just monitor his condition.
How long Normally do cats last in this condition??
I want him not to suffer.

The vet isgiving my cat all the vitamins he needs.
But his condition is quite bad still.

Impossible to say - each cat is different. Sleep on it & make a decision tomorrow. You don't want him to unnecessarily suffer.

Where do you think?
Sounds like poisoning of some sort to me. Putting him down sounds drastic. It also sounds like you need a second opinion here if your vet doesnt know what the problem is. Is it possible the neighbors had an opened bottle of antifreeze laying around?

When I went up there was nothing on my neighbors balcony. Just to washing machine.
Its possible it could have been something he accidentally ate.
Im not sure.
What can I do to make my cat more comfortable and help him regain his strength?

If he is cold try putting a heated blanket down or a hot water bottle under his sleeping area. Find the warmest blanket (the fuzzy faux fur couch throws are great for this) you have and let him lie on it put a hot water bottle underneath if you can.

Really hard to say how long it takes to work it's way out of the system. I do know shivering and body temperature regulation expend a lot of energy that's why the blanket and hot water bottle will help keep him comfortable.

Yes. I hope he recovers soon. Will update on what the other vet has to say.
Thanks for your advice.
I appreciate it.

Cats have higher body temperature than humans. My cat has special heating pad to regulate her temperature. I have been a Mom for 11 cats. Had this one for 19 1/2 years.

Try wet kitten food. Warm it. Dilute it. Anything to make it more attractive. Ask vet if he feels cat in pain. Ask his advice about putting your baby to sleep. I have lost six cats so my heart goes out to you! If you get through this, don't ever let your baby out again. Too dangerous!!

Hang in there! We're all behind you!

Also try squirting oral electrolyte solution into mouth every 30 minutes. Can find in grocery stores or pharmacies. Rubbing honey on gums gives energy boost. Again, best of luck!

Heat up a brick or some stones in your oven then wrap in a soft blanket and place beside Tiger, if you don't have a hot water bottle.  You must keep him as warm as possible.

For electrolytes, mix a stock cube or some noodle powder in water and squirt into his mouth, the salts will help to rehydrate him.

Try tempting him with some lightly boiled or steamed boneless white fish.  He might drink the fish water, at least.

Keep us posted.

I'm praying for Tiger and you

@Puffycloudds  it sounds as though Tiger might have low potassium levels, ask your vet to check.  In the meantime, banana or plantain contain lots of potassium, and help support the kidneys.  They are safe for cats but not normally given, however, this is not a normal situation.  If Tiger is fading and you think he might die, mush up some banana and stuff it into his mouth.

Hai guys. I just got back from a different vet.
This vet checked his liver, kidneys and blood.

Results.
Well. Since tiger has not been eating therefore his kidney and liver results are as weak.
He has no problem in his blood.

And the vet wants to run farther tests on him. But when he is better.

He is on drips.
Ive gotten a new set of antibiotics.
As well as vitamins to take orally

Later in 2/3 hours, I will syringe him more diluted wetfood with water.
Then he cn take his meds.

I put hot bottles around him. On his left and right and bundled him up. Definitely keeping him warm.
Thank u for ur suggestions and support.

He looks much better now on drips. It will keep him hydrated.
Its glucose water and meds to give him appetite supposedly.

This is my very first cat and i have never been in this position bfore. Thank u for ur support and please do reply if yoi guys have any more suggestions.

Btw. I will mushed some banana's and gave a bit to him. He tends to spit out his food tho. But will keep doing so every 2/3 hours to give him energy.

Thnks alot

That's great news, I'm so relieved for you both

It's good that you sought advice from The Cat Site, a problem shared is a problem halved.  We'll be here with you every step of the way

I was in a terrible state of mind when Brian was suddenly taken poorly.  He collapsed and I had to get the vet to come to my house, as I was crying & shaking uncontrollably, and so traumatised by the shock of losing him that I couldn't drive.  I was all alone.  I wouldn't wish how alone I was on anyone and it makes me happy to be here for you right now.

Tiger isn't out of the woods yet though, but if he's been allowed to come home that is a very positive sign.  I've been with some extremely poorly cats before who have made miraculous recoveries.  I'll keep my fingers & toes crossed for Tiger

Tiger is having his nap. I wokeup and I found my younger kitten on him keeping him warm.

I work fulltime and my husband only comes back late in the evening. I dont have the heart to leave tiger alone again.
Not until he is recovered conpletely.
Im definitely not giving up on him.

He looks much better today compare to yesterday.

Thank you all for the support.
People here don't really seem to understand how much a companionship of my cat means to me.
They are not all animal lovers.

Will update if he there are any changes in Tiger. He seems to be lifting his head up now.
Not as weak as yesterday.

:wavey:

Hey guys.
I am having trouble feeding my pet and forcing down the food into his mouth. There is a ward that takes care of his needs.
At myr 25.00 perday.

What do you guys think? Since I have to go to work.
I wont be able to tend to him every 2/3 hours.

There they can monitor him and constantly keep him on drip.
Plus i know he will be in good hands.

I just want him to recover slowly.

Let me know what you think. Thanks
