So, I'm a new cat mom. I got my kitten Clester about 2 months ago when he was 4 months old. At first I brushed it off as a nervous stomach, but now I'm not so sure. He has very soft runny stool and has terrible gas. The stool is not like diarrhea as it is not watery. The vet tested his stool and he has no parasites. What are your recommendations for soothing his tummy??

This sounds really like our golden retriever when he was a puppy. Awful smelly gas and constantly had the runs. After about 5 antibiotics and various parasite treatments he was no better.

Then someone suggested putting him on hypoallergenic food. Turns out he's gluten intolerant.

He's perfect on the hypoallergenic food...but you know right away if he's stolen a biscuit. He also can't tolerate chicken which is mad because they always say to give them chicken and rice when they are sick.

I don't know if the same applies for a cat but it might be worth trying a hypoallergenic food for a while.

Hope you find answers.

Thank you! Do you recommend any specific brand of hypoallergenic food?

I'm not sure where you are based (I'm in ireland). Our dog eats Husse brand which is from Sweden. They also do cat food but I'm not sure if they have a hypoallergenic one?

My foster cat is supposed to be eating Arden Grange food that the spca supplied (but she won't as she's fussy!!) But I noticed on the pack it's hypoallergenic.

Maybe you could find something like those?

What brand of food are you feeding? Sometimes poor quality foods are the culprit since they are full of junk ingredients. Switching to a higher quality meat based food can help. These articles can help:

Sometimes cats are not able to tolerate certain ingredients in food. Grains and common proteins like chicken are common. You should ask the vet about the possibility of a food allergy or sensitivity. I think there is testing that can be done to determine what a cat is allergic / sensitive to in food. Most people just do an elimination diet through limited ingredient brands of foods or a raw or home cooked diet.
