My 14 year old kitty, Mr. Black is going through a rough patch.

Friday when I got home from work was the beginning. He didn't meet me at the door as usual.

I found him in his safeplace, where he goes when he's not feeling good. He didn't eat or drink anything

all day Friday. I called the vet, they were closed.

Saturday, he is drinking and eating a very little. I thought he might be bouncing back, so I didn't call the vet that day.

Sunday, no eating or drinking, very lethargic, I can see he's not feeling well.

Monday, called the vet. Got him in. Vet suspects HyperT. Blood tests and a bag of IV fluid were his treatment.

Was drinking good, now it's Wednesday, and he's back to very little water and no food intake. Vet is closed today.

Tomorrow, he goes back for another bag of IV juice, but I am beginning to wonder if it's more than the HyperT. How long does that

Methimazole take to start working? He's been on it for just about 24 hours now.

Very worried. Love this old cat. I adopted him out of a snowbank just over 14 years ago.

Thanks.

Sounds like more than just Hyperthyroid.  It could be pancreatitis which is very serious.  Cats present with rather vague symptoms, but they are all very lethargic, do not want to eat or drink; many hide and seek heat.  Cats that do not eat can develop hepatic lipidosis within 36-48 hours which greatly complicates things.

Having been down this road previously, if Mr. Black was my cat, I would take him to an emergency Vet place today.  Do not wait till tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply.

Emergency not really an option. Closest one is 45 miles away.

I trust my vet. he has saved Mr. Black 2 times previously. He was aware that my boy wasn't eating and drinking

and gave me a tube of Nutrical? to get him through to Thursday in case he wouldn't eat.

I cracked a can of tuna and Mr. Black partook. He didn't eat a lot but he did lick all the juice he could, I din't give him the whole can.

He's been drinking small amounts of water all day and has not vomited at all.

Now he's laying in the window looking outside enjoying dusk, nice to see him come out of his safeplace.

Time for my prework nap, I'll try to get him to eat some more before I head off to work.

Was going to bring him with me, but if he eats again later, will leave him at home. If I can save him stress i will.

Pretty sure he's going to the vet regardless tomorrow.

Mr. Black is bouncing back nicely now. Won't eat anything he used to eat, but he's eating and drinking well. Here is a pic from earlier today.

Three months later and Mr. Black is doing very well. He may even be getting a tad chunky!
