my friend has a cat and she moved back in with her parents who have two other cats. The other cats do not get along with her cat and when she leaves for a few days her cat will pee all over the house and refuse to use the litter box. They have tried to retrain her as well as to have separate litter boxes. If this continues they will have to get rid of her cat. Any suggestions or help?

Hi,

Your friend's cat is marking because she feels insecure in the new house.

I would highly suggest to keep the cats separated and to go through the formal introduction process. I will include the links here:

http://www.thecatsite.com/a/the-ultimate-yet-simplified-guide-to-introducing-cats

http://www.catbehaviorassociates.com/a-simple-little-trick-to-use-during-new-cat-introductions/

The formal introduction process should be followed so that the cats can get to know each other and so they are not afraid of each other or insecure.

Cats want to "own" territory so when they feel insecure that they don't own territory they do things like marking their territory. To say "this is mine". When your friend leaves the cat feels very insecure.

I am happy to help your friend. If you could have them come on this site and post I am happy to help throughout the process. It must be gone through step by step and slowly. But it should solve the problem and make life better for everyone.

Thank you for your concern.
