I made a mistake in a previous post. Little Lion's FIP would be considered the wet variant, since there is fluid in her lungs. She is acting strangely normal this morning, walking around a little more than she has in days, and drinking a little.

Does anybody know if Bacterial Peritonitis could be causing these symptoms? I was always told that with FIP that they get progressively worse. This morning she's been more active than she has in a week. This whole ordeal has been worrying and puzzling.

To add to this, she just ate half a can of tuna.

Doxycycline is good for certain types of pneumonia so if she's got fluid in her lungs that's a good option. I don't know much about FIP unfortunately but the eye issue you spoke of sounds more like lymphoma. Have you thought about taking her to a specialist?

A specialist would be a good idea. Does anybody here feel she might have been misdiagnosed with FIP?

It's possible, FIP is usually the last diagnosis after you've ran tests for everything else, unfortunately that doesn't make it a wrong diagnosis. Going to a specialist however will help rule out potential other causes.

I've had FIP brought up for two different cats but I didn't stop testing until I had a definite answer. I was very lucky the first being microplasma pneumonia and the second tritrichomonas, both of which I was able to treat although the microplasma did take the weaker ones before we found the cause and started them on doxycycline. Your vet is making a diagnosis of FIP based on the limited amount of observable data he has available to him, get more data and you may find another cause you can treat or unfortunately you may confirm the diagnosis.

I do hear FIP is often misdiagnosed. With FIP I hear cats get progressively weaker. On Tuesday night, Little Lion's eyes were uneven, and hazy , but that hasn't happened since. She also walks around more now than she did on Tuesday-Friday. They did give her pain medication, so that might play a role. However, her appetite for drinks and food, while still minimal, is a little higher today than it was a few days ago, and she doesn't seem to be going blind, or having problems walking, which I hear is often seen in FIP cats. This, and hopefulness is making me think she might have been improperly diagnosed.

This of course is always good to hear, that she has some relief regardless of why.

Be cautious though of the pain meds which will give false hopes. Dry fip does also seem to fluctuate which is why some are able to live for months with it.

I think it would count as wet, as she had fluid in her, affecting her breathing, which also seem more labored yesterday. I have been thinking about my poor cat constantly, and anything at all to show she's feeling better is such a welcome change. She's such a sweet cat, and the thought of losing her tears me apart. I saved her when she was just a little kitten, and have developed a strong bond with her since. The vet acted like she'd be feeling worse today, but that doesn't seem to be case. I have loved seeing her feeling a little better today. I have spent all day with her, and have loved every moment.

And she is eating more cat food again. Not sure if pain medication would help that or not.

Did I miss something? I didn't think I heard she has fluid but def could have missed it, or was this new?

What would nake the vet think she would feel worse today?

Okay, I'm going back, I've missed a post.......

Yes, the pain meds helps her feel better meaning it will cause a better appetite.

I misstated some things in the previous post, namely related to the dry/wet status. I thought it had be in the abdomen to be considered wet. And that makes sense, I guess, that the pain meds would increase her appetite, and help her return to some of her old habits. I have been going between feeling somewhat hopeful, to feeling sad all day. I am hoping this is something else, but part of me feels it's not. I just feel really upset right now. Last night, I worried all night about her, which made it hard to sleep. I woke up this morning to see her there, standing in front of me. I was so happy I cried a little, and hugged her. My emotions have been all over the place lately, which is why my post might have some errors at times.

She's eating even more now, and is even more active. Whether or not this from the pain medication, or a misdiagnosis of FIP, meaning it would be something else, I am loving seeing my Little Lion feeling better. I am cherishing every one of these moments. She hasn't looked this good in a week.

Oh my gosh of course you are! It's a sad, indescribable feeling to see and know our loves are feeling anything but good and happy.

Such a welcome relief, temporary or not, regardless, it's a great thing and lifts some of the weight you've been feeling.

It does. Cuddling this little cat, and hearing it purr melts my heart. Sadly, in the back of my mind I know it might not last long. It's a torturous feeling. It's the worst feeling I have experienced in years, even more so then why my 13 year old cat died in 2014. It was killed by the neighbor's dogs, when it got outside. As tragic as that was, it wasn't as punishing as Little Lion's FIP, and Little Lion is so young, too. It's depressing.

Oh Lord, I hate to hear this. After losing my sweet baby Darcy to this horrible, horrible, awful, horrible disease my heart just breaks for you and your baby.  Please love her as much as you can for the time she has left.

Hearing the sweet words my grandfather has for it, and his level of optimism is both warming, as well as heartbreaking. He's 70 and with a bad heart. I fear losing Little Lion will hurt him physically. This all feels like a bad dream at times. These last few days have been emotionally draining. Little Lion is such a sweet cat, loved by everybody, and have seen very few cats with an adorable personality. She seems to love everyone she meets, and everybody who has ever seen her loves her right back. The fact such a sweet soul has been cursed by such a horrific disease has torn my heart to pieces. It makes it almost impossible to fall asleep at night. For the last few nights I have only slept after tiring myself out.

Makes my heart ache knowing those feelings, the sadness and the torment is inescapable........Big sigh.
