About 2 or 3 weeks ago my 1 year old cat started having what I can call "nightmares". He will be sleeping perfectly one minute and the next he makes a horrible sound, like a mix between coughing and throwing up, except his mouth is closed and he is not gagging, and he never throws anything up. This has happened 3 times and every single time it has been when he was sleeping.

Any ideas? He is due for this yearly vet appointment in the next 2 weeks. Should I just wait it out and see if it happens again and mention it to the vet, or does this sound like something serious?

Thanks!

Hello kcb385,
Your kitty might be having a dream. Hope it's not anything more seriousthan that. Observe closely and see if it happens more frequently or not. If yes and if you are concern which you ought to, bring your kitty in sooner and don't wait till the next appointment.

Also, just take a video on your phone of him sleeping while he's having what you are describing and show it to the vet. Your vet is the best person to give you the answer.

Do let us know the outcome after the visit to the vet ;)

Hi TabbyTom,

Thanks for your advise. I was looking it up on youtube last night in case any other cats experienced this, and I stumbled on a video of cats with asthma and its IDENTICAL to the sound and body posture that my cat has. I think this is what it is. I will be taking him to the vet to confirm.

Thanks.
