Hi all,
This may be a silly question (I am extremely new to this, never had anything to do with cats, but just rescued a dumped kitten off the street.)
When kittens have their immunisations, can they react like humans? Get fevers etc? I have to take my kitten into the vet for her first visit, just wondering if I'll need to keep my eye on her for the rest of the day or not. Thanks :)

Yes. Just like humans cats can have reactions to vaccines. You'll want to keep on eye on behavior, eating, litter box habits and bumps at the injection site. Most cats who react may be a little off normal for a day or two but it shouldn't be anything sever (out of my cats one got a lump that lasted two days, one had no reaction, and one was just tired but still eating normally).

If you notice vomiting, loose stool, lethargic behavior lasting more than 24 hours or a hard lump at the injection site that doesn't go away after 48-72 hours you should call the vet.

My cats are usually quite grumpy after they're vaccinated. Being less interested in play and food is normal for the first 24 hours, but if she is very lethargic I'd be worried.

Does she have a fever? Has she had anything to eat or drink since you brought her home?

Call your vet and ask them if they think her reaction is normal. Aftercare is all part of the service vets provide when they vaccinate your cat. They should be able to answer your questions and tell you what to do.

Hope it's nothing serious.
