Hi to all

We hae often spoken about our 2 beautiful ,rescued feral cats,Muse and Shadow.--they are now about 3 years old.

They have  always been indoor cats and very shy of others.

This weekend, the male got out of the house and took off.Later I saw him and tried to catch him---resulted in a hand bite for me and a smack for him(a reaction I am not proud of.Since then we have not seen him.

We have put his cat box outside with some pieces of out clothing and spent much time walking around the immediate neighborhood calling him and shaking a treat bag----no response. As he can not be picked up,we now feel that our only hope is ,to hope he makes his own way home to us and his sister.

We feel that he is either having fun or holed up somewhere.

Any suggestions would be welcome

Thank you

Tony and Kat Wynne-Roberts

Have you tried the tips in Help! My Cat Is Lost! ? Is there a shelter or rescue in your vicinity that will lend or rent you a trap? Sometimes that's the only way to get a cat that doesn't allow you to pick him up. :vibes::vibes::vibes:

I'm so sorry, these stories truly break my heart.

I would hang fliers in the local shops, also give a picture to all surrounding shelters, adoption centers etc, and also all surrounding vets just in case someone brings him in.

Do you live in a city area or country???

Thanks for your reply--we started using a trap last night, unfortunately, every cat who lives in the neighbor hood, hangs out at our house

Thank you for your reply.

We have done all you suggested plus, now we have started to use a trap in the hope that we can snare him.

Unfortunately, our house seems to be a popular hang-out for all the neighbors cats plus a few racoons----so trapping may be frustrating.

Thanks again

We are in a city suburb and unfortunately, all the cats in the neighborhood seem to love our home--so trapping is going to be fun.

One of my concerns is that ,he is an ex-feral cat although he has been indoors for nearly 3 years with us.

We are hoping he does not revert to feral !!

Good morning

I finally saw Shadow at 4 am this morning. He is under a neighbors mobile home.Unfortunately, the neighbor has 7 cats and a number of raccoons that he feeds so,leaving food solely for Shadow is impossible---also,it could lead to a fight between shadow and a raccoon.

To make matters more complicated, the neighbor does not want me to use a trap as one of his cats may be caught--he is afraid that this experience may cause his cat/cats to leave home !!!

What a predicament !!!!

I have to say I'm relieved that you spotted Shadow.  That must make you feel a bit better.

Is there a shelter you can call for assistance with trapping him and him only or catching him.

Is Shadow fixed?  Could he be in heat.  Even though my boy had been neutered he still had urges...

best of luck, thanks for the update.

That's wonderful you saw him if he is an ex-feral he knows how to fend for himself which is good. If he was used to being around raccoons before he should be ok around them now. Usually the raccoons are scared
of the cats and not the other way around. This is from what I observe. I guess it depends on the raccoons. If they feed together it should be ok. You are getting close eventually you will find him waiting for you at the front door when he wants to go back to the comforts of home! Good luck!!

Thanks for your reply..

Shadow is fixed and has had all his shots. We do have

It was such a relief to finally seee him--alhough ,he soon ducked back into his hide hole.

We have a shelter nearby but I dont think they will come and trap an animal.Anyway,I consider that a last resort.

We will go to him this evening at treat time and seee if we can entice him with treats.

In a couple of days ,I will set up the trap near his hole--and sit nearby to free any animal who my be trapped in error

Thnaks again

Thanks for your reply---yes,it was huge relief.

We will go to him for the next few evenings at treat time to show him that everything is ok.

Then I will try to set a trap near his hidey hole and sit nearby (downwind) so I can release any animal who may be trapped in error.

Thanks again

If you saw him once you'll see him again.  I really wish the neighbor would give you more freedom to catch him.

Keep us posted.

Hi

One of those 1 step forward and 2 steps back days.Saw Shadow walk across our back yard,Called his name, shook his treat bag to no avail.

Walked on as if he has forgotten us and his sister and started a new life

Is there a shelter or a vet who can help you set up a trap on your yard?  Have you tried leaving something outside with his sisters scent on it.

When the warm weather hits, it will just be harder, and then he will be faced with all the elements that come with spring and summer, ticks, fleas, wild animals out of hiding.

fingers crossed.

Goodmorning

Well Shadow is home--walked through the cat door to our surprise. After trying to get back out for a few moments(I had locked it one way),he settled to our stroking an talking to him.

Unfortunately, his sister is treating him as a ,stranger, growling and hissing at him---cats sure are weird.

Anyway,he shows no sign of aggression at all, flops over and purrs at the drop of a hat-----in fact, seems more affectionate than before

We have washed his coat with a wet rag and rubbed a little catnip into both cats.

We both have to go to work today so,we will see what transpires.

Luckily we have a fairly large hous so,they can avoid each other if they have to.

This is great news.  Either his sister was liking being an only cat or he had her just as worried.

Cat's know whats going on.  I'm sure within a couple of days all will be normal.

Great way to start the week.  Congrats...

I think one of the problems is that he smells a little weird and that he is bigger than her--so she is wary.

Proverbial light at the end of the tunnel this morning.

Although I made 2 litter boxes for them, they were both using the same box.

Also, they were sitting about 1 foot apart at a window I keep open at night (bronze insect net fitted).

We really ignore them unless they come to us for affection---and we talk to them in a very quiet voice.

Sooooo, hopefully it will be a happy home soon
