I found some old threads on this but thought it was worth a revisit. Does anyone else have a cat that goes crazy when they whistle?
One of ours will jump up, purring and nuzzling. She goes for your mouth, almost like she's trying to shut you up! ( I also had a cat when I was little that did this.)
I've read different theories- that they don't like the sound and are trying to get you to stop, or that it sounds like you're in distress and are trying to help. Or simply that it sounds like a friendly sound, or reminds them of a kitten.
Whatever it is, it's an unusual response unlike normal affection. It's a bit "frantic".
Our other cat isn't affected at all.
I'd love to know if anyone has any insight!
