Hello everyone,

I'll try to make this brief. I have a cat who has had loose and smell stools forever. Recently she started going outside of the litter box (loose stools only). I bought another bigger litter box and now have 2. I took her to the vet, where they ran many tests that came back fine. I have tried her on different canned foods. The food she was originially on was Fancy Feast Classic. I do not give my cats dry food.

Finally I had her hospitalized to see if the vets could figure out what was going on. They put her on Predisnose and Royal Canin Gastro Intestinal canned food. They said her stoold were solid. They concoluded she may have IBS and may need to be on Predcisone long term. I took her home, following vets instructions we are nod down to prednisone every other day. She has had semi solid stools.. But over the last couple of days I ahve noticed some soft serve stools in the litter box and one in the corner of the room where the litter boxes are.

These are the brands I have tried. Fancy Feast Classic, Royal Canin Gastro Intestinal, and 4 Health Grain Free. I ahev also tried Grady Pet Digestive Enzymes.
I don't want to go the Raw Diet route unless I have too. Can anyone recomment a can cat food and/or a prebiotic or supplement that may help Lola with her stinky, diareha problem?

Staring to loose hope and tons of money Lol..

Steve

I completely understand where you're coming from. Smokey's very similar and we've gone through long phases of loose stools with her and different foods. We didn't get an IBD diagnosis for her since we lucked out and found the one or two foods she could be on and the vet didn't press the issue. At one point, I went to multiple specialty pet stores and bought cans of every brand of cat food they had in stock (specially once she became bored of the first food). What she has done well on is Wellness Core, Wellness Signature Select Chicken with Chicken Liver, and Max Cat Turkey and Chicken Liver.

@missmimz  did recommend a probiotic to me when we were having problems again with Smokey. I didn't get around to trying it since her problems cleared up with the Max Cat, but it may help you. The link is:

You can also try a novel protein food, which are a lot moe expensive than fancy feast.. FF is not a bad food.. try to get the classics.. the pate, and no gravy..

You can try a high protein, low carb food..

I know the probiotic which was prescribed for my guy, is Proviable.. much cheaper if ordered on line at Chewy.. but you really need the cooperation and advise of a vet.. they can help prescribe, and we can steer you from there...

Yes @missmimz   S Boulardi is good for diarrhea..

finally, there are a lot of cats allergic to chicken.. just keep that in mind..

good luck!!

Hey! Thanks so much so much. I don't really trust my vet because she said if it didn't clear up with the prescription canned food they sold me, she was fine with Lola being on low dose prednisone forever.
