Hello this is my first post and im worried about my cat!
My cat has just been diagnosed with this disease something like Crohn's or irritable bowel syndrome and he doesn't get the correct nutrients or they don't break down properly dise the vet gave me pills to give him a week ago
but he just don't seem to be getting any better hes going back to vet tomorrow
But he keeps throwing up i was just wondering if anybody else has dealt with this before and has had any luck treating it
My cat seems to be doing fine he's active he's drinking he's eating but he's lost a lot of weight and he keeps throwing up his food and stomach acid
The help would be much appreciated

How did you Vet diagnose this? I am curious. Is it related to IBD, inflammatory bowel disease??   or are they one and the same?

My Vet has him on (prednisone),(flagly) and (pectalin paste)
but my cat kept throwing up after being on medication for 5 days
Vet said the steroid was probably making him sick so he wanted to try (cerenia) im also feeding him different food
And my vet also did blood work that was sent out to check a variety of things, and he checked my cats stool this is how he determined my cat has malabsorption malassimilation syndrome
Any suggestions will help
My cat is still active drinking water and eating , but loosing alot of weight im just worried about him!

have you tried a high protein low carb diet?  and a novel protein.. just thinking like it is IBD....

Cerenia is really good for nausea.. Pepcid is good for gastric stomach.. and Zofran is good for nausea, also...

Does he eat dry or wet.. wet is better for them.. but sometimes when they have tummy issues they like the dry.. do not know why..

Are there any meds to help with the malabsorption?   OR Vitamin shots, like B-12 or something..

Are you seeing a specialist? That may be the best thing to do.. an internal medicine Vet.. they can help advise you and your Vet as what to do..

It is really great that you vet was able to diagnose this.. Sounds as if it is not an easy diagnosis.. poor baby..

sending you ((Hugs))  I really have not idea on this..

Sometimes digestive enzymes help malabsorption.   Did your Vet discuss their use at all.  If not, I would bring them up and see what they say.  I used to use Prozyme for my elderly little girl when she started losing so much weight.  When you use digestive enzymes on healthy cats, often they will gain weight even when you feed the same amount of food, just because their bodies assimilate more of the nutrients.

can you ask the vet about giving him something for the diarrhea?  Are you giving probiotics? I know a lot of people swear by S. Boulardi for diarrhea.. but that is something you need to ask about..

Some strains of probiotics can cause diareah. I would ask if that was a possibility. I use canned pumpkin for diareah. 1 or two tablespoons. Kitty loved it. Firms up stools but they stay soft. Your kitty may benefit from a less rich diet til his system settles.

Please tell us exactly what you are giving him besides feeding him the new food.  AND, are you feeding him ONLY the new Z/D, or are you feeding that along with other foods?   We can try to help you, but need to know everything that is going into your little guy in order to do that.
