We are back from our trip and the kittens are 2 weeks old today. They have all opened their eyes in the past few days. They seem to be gaining but I haven't gotten weights yet. I'm starting to think about what to do when they get mobile...Is that at about 3 weeks? Trying to figure out a pen of sorts but still keeping them imy daughter's room. Suggestions? I've seen a few ideas on the site but wondered what some of you have tried with success. I'll post some pics later. They are just adorable!

NEED HELP WITH 3 WK OLD KITTENS PLEASE! Cali had 4 kittens 3 wks ago. All doing great. They have started walking, playing, in their box so we decided to cut am opening for them to get out and put a pen around the area. Well Cali has gotten very upset with them. She's biting them and doesn't like them getting out. We covered the opening for now. Should she be acting like this? Concerned that she doesn't feel they're safe but she hasn't been territorial with them and has allowed us to handle them, weigh, etc. Any ideas? Thank you!

She isn't ready for them to leave the nest yet. But it will be time in the next week or so. It's important that the kittens have room to get out and play, tussle, and explore. Mom will get used to it. Most cats are anxious when the babies first venture out. You will see her begin to physically discipline them. As long as she is not too rough, this is how she teaches the kittens manners.

Thank you for the quick reply. Should we just leave it up to them? I mean if they crawl over the sides, then not much we can do. They have room in their box to play and have been wresting around with each other...So adorable!

Our 4 kittens are now 6 wks old. The 3 boys love to eat solid foods. The 1 girl, who is tiny anyway, will have nothing to do with it. She's very rough and tumble and probably the craziest of all of them! Just wondering if I should be concerned that she isn't interested in food. I haven't noticed how often Mama is still nursing? Thank you!

Kittens still nurse some until 8 weeks. She may be smaller because she was born a week later. Give her time and she will eventually want to try what 'the big boys' are doing.

Normal weaning time is anywhere between 5-8 weeks. As kashmir64 kashmir64 said, she'll get there in due time!

Moms continue to nurse their kittens beyond 8 weeks, but it gets less and less as time goes by. :)

Btw, if you are absolutely sure that the two dark ones are torties, then they are both girls. Not a boy and a girl.
