Hey guys,

So I've just made a "bone broth" with some rabbit heads from Hare Today. I basically just took 3 rabbit heads from the package, put them in a crockpot, put enough filtered water to just cover the bones and a splash of apple cider vinegar. I let it simmer on low for the past 24 hours.

It didn't "gel" like bone broth usually does (I have made it before with beef bones) but I had a feeling it wasn't going to since there's not much (if any?) cartilage in the head of a rabbit. I though it would still be nutritious, though, since the brains and eyeballs were still in the heads when I cooked it. I just let the kitties have a few teaspoons of it and they enjoyed it.

I was wondering... can I use this broth instead of water when I make their ground food recipe? Usually, I mix their supplements (Vitamin E, B, Taurine) with 1 cup of water and mix it into their meat/bone/organ grind. Can anyone think of an issue with using the rabbit head broth instead of water?

Gosh, I can't really think of a reason.  You're talking about using 1 cap to how much of the grind? Maybe 5 or 10 pounds?  (just thinking there would be some organ in there, but not enough to throw of the percentage that much, I wouldn't think.)

Sounds like a nice treat for your cats!  I don't see any downside in substituting bone broth for water.

What about you though, are you going to use the broth yourself or did you just make it for the cats?  If so, you are quite a dedicated cat mama!

:) no, it's just for them...i got a bit squeamish looking at it.

If I could make a broth with beef bones or chicken I would be all over it. But Malibu is allergic to chicken and super intolerant to beef so rabbit it is!

I like to think they are lucky to have me but THEY think that's just what I'm supposed to do

I see no reason why you couldn't use your bone broth in lieu of  the water.  I would think it would add a great deal of nutritional value.

It's so funny because right now I have bone broth in my slow cooker.  It's been cooking since about six last night.

I boiled a chicken for Thirteen who is being absurdly picky again.  As a treat I made their raw food with quail this time because when I was feeding Frankenprey Atticus and Thirteen both loved it.  The three pounds of quail cost me thirty bucks.  I put it down expecting a stampede to the food bowls but both cats, even Atticus, my kitty garbage disposal, turned their noses up at it.  Atticus will eventually eat it but it takes him a long time.  I thought maybe bone broth as a topper would make it a bit more palatable to them.  We'll see.
