Hi. I'm asking because I would appreciate any guitar speaker cabinet suggestion for my amp.

what amp, guitar, type of music? in an actual band or home practice setting? (Is volume and power a consideration)

Is your amp a combo (amp and speaker, and you are looking for an extension speaker?

Inquiring minds want to knowwwww       :  )

Hello. Thank you. It's a Peavey 6505 Piranha head (hybrid solid state power section and tube driven pre amp section). The guitar is an SG Yes you guessed it right. It's for heavy rock. I've been told that any cab with a Celestion V30 or similar speaker will sound well. It will not be terribly loud, since it's a hybrid amp (15 Watt at 8 ohm, 10 at 16), but I would definitely like a good cab for another head. There's a 1x12 loaded with a Greenback in same price range. It's a question of playing and choosing between Hughes & Kettner, Orange and Peavey (sound, weight, etc.). I don't know if you have experience with these speakers. Thanks again. P.S. I tried the head with the Orange PPC 112 and it sounds great.

in a home setting, any of your mentioned Celestion speakercabs would sound fine. Also, explore 2 x 10 cabs, the smaller speakers are "driven" a bit more and deliver the "crunch" so familiar with rock guitar.

A combo amp (amp and matched speaker housed together) also an affordable option...Fender of course.

Once you get into playing "out"...power becomes essential to both penetrate a room, meanwhile deliver clarity.

To contrast..my Genz-Benz GB1200 is rated at 1000watts @ 4 ohm, 1200 @ 2ohm.   I vary the load via using different cabs.. depending on the room single 4 x10, two 4 x 10...

4 x 8,  single or two 8 x 8...single 15, single 18....or combinations. I own a ton of vintage SWR bass cabs, accrued over many years.

Bug is currently living amongst the many cabs stacked in my music room.

Of course, effects pedals (wah, delay, chorus, etc) can enhance your sound. There are oodles of choices out there.

Hey, good luck and keep rockin' !

1000 watts?!. Wow!. I knew that bass amps were powerful, but 1000 watts?. Tha's probably loud enough for the Yankee Stadium!.

For the time being, the cabinet will be used at home, so a 1x12 is more than enough. 10 inch speakers are definitely a good option for home use. A low efficiency 12 inch speaker (e.g. Greenback) would also be nice.

If I join a band, I will get the 6505 mini head. It's an all tube head rated at 20 watts (way much louder than my hybrid Piranha), so another 1x12 cabinet will be more than enough for rehearsing and small venues (there are also weight considerations). I can always place a microphone (connected to the sound system) in front of one of the speakers for anything larger.

Ultimately, it will all depend on the tone I like better, since both speakers have their advantages (with the V30, you will get your power rating's worth. The Greenback, on the other hand, is a less efficient speaker that enables you to play the amp at louder volumes and get more tube overdrive).

Many thanks again, bigbadbass.

Update: I've got a closed back, 1x12 cabinet with a Celestion G12H anniversary, and it's a very good speaker, perhaps a bit more "vintage" in flavor than the V30, but it pairs really well with the Peavey. In fact, I would like to try an Orange Micro Terror with it. Maybe I'll buy that amp soon, just for the sake of having a different and cleaner sound.

@Ganesha0

you've now hopped on to the "quest for tone".  Can become complex and expensive...but the search is fun . Ever hear Eric Johnson?  A virtuoso and TONEMONSTER. Do some youtube on him...his website may detail his ever changing and improving pedal board arsenal. Tone wise...this guys the best I ever heard. Seeing him live is awe inspiring, he pulls different tones out of a bottomless pit of tricks. And he's got technical playing skills. to go along with it. Very interesting chord structures.

Youtube his old 80's instrumental hit "Cliffs of Dover".....there are many live examples there.....tone to DIE FOR.

A MUST see/listen, an education for any electric guitarist.

Yes, I know who Eric Johnson is. Not only he's a guitar wizard, but also a tremendous tone tweaker who affirms that even "irrelevant" components, like pick guard screws, can affect the overall tone. He has his own signature Fender guitars, DiMarzio pickups and Eminence speakers. That's the way to go if you want your own sound in an era where a lot, if not most guitar amp manufacturers, design their amps with Celestion V30's, Celestion Greenbacks, regular Fender and regular Gibson guitars in mind.
