First of all I'd like to thank all of you for your support in all the threads I've made here. I'm so glad I made an account to share my experiences and to have people who actually care.

I want to transition into sleeping with my cat at night. I think that he's getting too much isolation when he's down there all alone at night. We keep him in a isolated room when we sleep because if we don't he'd be all over the place. The first few times I've tried sleeping in the same room I've failed. Any advice? Preferably I'd like for him to sleep upstairs in my room, but his food and litter box are kept downstairs

We keep our cats food and litter box on the first floor and the bedrooms are on the second floor. The cats have the run of the entire house. They know where everything is and have never not used their box. Cats are smart. Your cat would probably love the companionship at night.

Hello spookysmom234, great that you've decided to want to sleep with your kitty at night. Many of us here sleep with our kitties in the bedroom and on the bed.

How old is your kitty and have she ever been to your bedroom and up the bed? It's easier to train a cat to sleep with you when they are young but some will want to sleep with you regardless of their age.

A few things to take note is that some cats sleep through the night and some wake up at 4 am. Some sleep early and some don't. Some sleep next to you and some sleep at your feet and some on your face. What I'm trying to say is you have to be prepared for their sleep patterns and behaviors.

He's about 9 months now I'd say. He's in my bedroom all the time, when I'm napping he usually lays on the floor next to the bed. He's been on the bed a couple of times. I have a bunk bed but my main concern is him jumping from bed to bed at night disturbing me and it may be dangerous for him roo

Since he's used to your room and lays on the floor while you are napping, you can try getting him to sleep in at night. Maybe in the beginning he'll be on the floor and slowly he'll climb onto the bed but you can encourage him to join you in bed. As long as your room is cat safe, it should be ok. If he sleeps well in the night, then you don't have to worry about him jumping about. But just in case, you have to be ready for him ask to be let out and later ask to be let in.

Some leave there door ajar and some have cat doors so that there are no disturbances during sleep if the cats want to get in or out. So I'm not sure how your kitty will take to sleeping with you. If your whole house is cat safe, then it'll be best and you don't have to worry if he gets out of the room. Most likely he won't use the litter box in the night.

You can give it a try and see how it goes. Does he really eats in the middle of the night? If he does, maybe shift his food bowl into your room at night, unless you try to break his habit of eating at night, otherwise he'll be meowing i the middle of the night and wake you up so that he can have his food.

I hope that you have success in getting him to sleep with you in the night.

We keep the bedroom door open all night. Alice likes to play with her toys in the living room until she tuckers herself out then come nap on the bed with us, then sometimes she'll get back up and go play again. We've found this to be ideal because her playing in the other room doesn't disturb our sleep and we get to wake up to kitty snuggles in the morning. :)
