My 7 year old cat was recently at the vet for a fever of unknown origin and was given an antibiotic injection and an anti inflammatory injection. He has returned to normal, except that he cannot sleep soundly. He moves, streatches, changes positions every 40 seconds to every minute. I can tell he's tired, but he can't stop changing positions. Could this be from an illness that was causing the fever? Or a reaction to one of the injections? The vet will be closed until Tuesday so I was just hoping for some possible answers before then. Thank you :)

Your poor cat!  It sounds like he feels the way I feel when restless leg syndrome strikes.  It's not painful but the sensations are very unpleasant as they take the form of an overwhelming urge to move the affected limb.  Sleep is impossible because you have to keep changing position.

If you know the names of the medications your vet used,  I'd google them and check for side-effects.   It also might be worth calling an ER vet and asking about side effects to the meds and how serious they are.

If this doesn't clear up within a few hours, I think I'd probably take him to an ER vet.  He may not be in any life-threatening danger, but this has to be terribly uncomfortable for him and they might be able to give him something that enables him to sleep.  He really does need his sleep, especially if he is recovering from an illness.

He did much better last night and is acting completely normal now. I do think it was a reaction to one of the injections he was given. Very strange and I'll remember this if he ever needs treatment again.
