My JoJo is 8 mo old now. He was 4 mo old when I rescued him! He has had this URI since we got him. He has been to two vets and on antibiotics several times. Nothing works. He is on Lysine and Lactoferrin. The vets suggest I get him a Nasal Endoscopy, suggesting maybe he has polyps in his sinus! The cat specialist want $1900 to $ 2400.00 for this test!!! Where do they think seniors living on Fixed income can come up with this kind of money! So I am wondering if anybody has any home remedies for URI (sneezing/wheezing/mucus).....

Hi Rita M - I'm so sorry your sweet JoJo isn't feeling well.

My girl had cronic uri and one thing that helped was slipping her a little Apple Cider Vinegar into her diet.  She actually loved it so I'd put a drop on my hand and she'd lick it off.  It did help with the congestion and her runny eyes and nose.

There are other experienced members who know more and who have tips.  Hang in there, I'll try and call upon a few who have helped me with various issues.

Hi fellow TCS Members, is there any advice you can suggest for our new member?  I'm sure any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.  I remember how you all helped me. xoxo

2 things much cheaper, if he's congested, a nasal flush under very light anesthesia, and then a "culture and sensitivity" test to see what the right antibiotic is.  Other than steam showers and non-medicated saline drops there aren't any other home remedies that i can recommend.

Just a small water drop size twice a day, morning and night.

I did notice it helped with her runny eyes, which would always get that rusty brown buildup.

She loved it.  If JoJo doesn't care for it, then try putting a little in the food.

I hope you are able to resolve this and he feels much better.

I always suggest a call to your vet to make sure this is in fact a good thing for your baby.

Also, please feel free to post pictures, we love pictures.

Keep us updated.  Be well...

Seconding the love of pictures.

Please see my ad at http://www.thecatsite.com/t/285757/reiki-offer

If you're interested in trying this, send me a PM and we'll set something up.

Also, I would suggest a Google search on "charities that help with veterinary bills in <STATE NAME>" where <STATE NAME> is the name of your state.  You never know what you might find.  (I'm assuming that you live in the U.S., which isn't necessarily so.  Wherever you live, substitute the appropriate location.)
