Not really sure where I should post this.. so I'll start here!

I was wondering if anyone uses more of a plate when you feed your cat? My kitten eats mostly wet/dehydrated raw food and the dish I have can be a pain at time. The end of her portion, a lot gets mashed along the sides and she'll stop eating...if I gather it and put it back on the middle she usually finishes it off...
So my question to all of you, is what kind of dish do you use? I'd like to see some options!

I use cat bowls with sides.  I take care of the 'mashed up' food problem by adding water.  It's good for their hydration and nothing gets stuck on the sides that way.

I add a very generous amount of water to both her canned and even her dehydrated..to the point its getting close to soup..if it's too watery she doesn't care for it. Even with all the extra water it still tends to mash..maybe she laps up the excess water lol

My cats are like that, too--I have to get just the right amount of water.  Too much and they won't eat it.  Too little and it mashes up against the sides of the bowls!

I found a great cat bowl.. It is like a small cereal bowl.. I used to use flat dishes, but since I have been adding a lot of water to the food, the bowl is great.. a good size, and I do have to worry about food being mushed out ...

I agree, too watery is not good.. it has to be the 'perfect' mix...

I use dessert bowls from Corelle.  Walmart had them in "open stock" but I've gotten them elsewhere also. They are by far my favorite.  They wash perfectly in the dishwasher and I can reheat refrigerated food.

My boy have his food served on ceramic plates with low sides. He's on totally wet food but I still add a little water to it.

Here's a photo of his dishes.
His food is served on either the oval or rectangular plate. I use a low sided plate so that the sides does not irritate his whiskers while he's eating.
The paw print bowl is his drinking bowl which I fill it up to the brim and throw away the water once he finished drinking.
The cat face print bowl is just to hold his spoon for scooping his food from the can to the plate :lol3:

The oval and rectangle look like great ideas! They were what I had been thinking of!

Apparently, many cats like to eat from a slightly elevated height, so that they don't have to bend down to the ground.  I think it's more comfortable on the throat to eat from a bowl about 6" from the ground.  So, you could try putting an oval dish like @TabbyTom  's onto a small box to see if she then clears her plate

Oh I like that bowl and that stand. Both are super neat. I picked up these yesterday. They were pretty cheap so I can replace them at any time.
I'm definitely going to try and find something to elevate them and see how she likes it

They look good. I read somewhere that cats like a bowl wide enough so that their whiskers don't touch the sides, your bowls look just the job.

Interesting! That would maybe explain the old bowls...once the remains of the food was mashed, her whiskers probably squished if she tried to get the last bites

I use a stainless steel plate for dry food and a bowl for wet food.

I encountered the same problem of food migration to the margins of the plate.

There is a compromise between allowing the whiskers to be free (not touching the margins) and pushing food towards the center of the plate.

@TabbyTom  Haha, I've noticed that January tends towards the prone, or the supine (upside down with tummy on display).  I've also noticed that he's a bit of an oddball in the nicest, most endearing, way possible

Yep, that's how he eats and how he sleeps. Every night his back legs are either on me chest or in me face when he sleeps in the supine position. He occupies a lot of space in that position. Sometimes I get his butt in me face too :lol3:
