Hiya my name is Jess I have some questions I need some information/answers for lol.
But first a little story lol:
I have 2 female cats patch who is 7 years old and mittens who is 4 years old, they have been apart of our family since they were kittens. A few month ago a friend of mine turned up out the blue with this frightened little black kitty and said her name is bonney i can't keep her, that's her litter tray some food and her bowls. Then turns and leaves in the taxi she had waiting.

So I'm now stood at my door shocked at what just happend and I look down and this poor little cat who is shakeing like a leaf, and think errr OKAY.

I knew a friend who wanted a cat and "Bonney" was still young so I asked if they would like to see how they got on. "Bonney" went and we watched as she walked around getting to know the new surroundings when I knoticed Bonney was not a she, he was a he lol. And did not settle at our friends so a few days later he was back with us. he and my daughter had bonded, she called him Bagheera after the black panther in jungle book. And he cuddled up on her bed every night, so he became apart of the family.

Anyway cuting the story short my girls have not been done and I've never had to rush into it as they are all indoor cats, I know there are benefits to there Heath from getting them done and it's always been the plan to do so. Bagheera had now put a rush on things and unfortunately timing was not great as it was on the lead up to Christmas.

Patch had a litter of kittens on the 1st fed, and mittens is due to drop any day now, but she is insistent on cuddling up with patch and her kitten. Patch and mittens have always been close, but it's only been the past few days that mittens wants to cuddle up with patch and her kitten and patch is happy for her to cuddle in aswell.

My questions are:

Why is she doing this?

Should I allow this?

P.S. Bagheera is getting the snip next week and I now he can still be fertile for up to a month after this and will be kept away from the girls.

I would assume it's hormonal. It's fine for now. She will need space when she has her babies since the already born kitten will be much bigger.

Is Bagheera away from them all the time now? Patch can get pregnant any time.

Mother cats are known to co-mother litters especially if they have kittens around the same time. It's fine so long as everyone is ok with it, and all the kittens are being fed and cared for. You can try moving Mittens to her own area when she gives birth, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if she ends up moving them in with Patch's kitten.

I would be more cautious about the male, they do sometimes kill kittens, not always but it is something to keep an eye on until the kittens are bigger or you know he is ok with them.

A two week old kitten may be too big to mingle with newborns safely.
