Hello Everyone,
On monday night my 11month cat had a seizure. We rushed her to the doctor and were told that she didnt have any physical signs. So the vet sent us home to watch her for a few days. Well tonight she just had another one. As of right now she is better. We will be taking her back to the vets tomorrow. The vet most likely thinks its epilepsy because they only happen to her when she is sleeping. I just want information on how to handle these situations and how to avoid spending way to much money at the vet. Is there a test for just epilespy? Any advice would be really appreciated!

Lets hope its epilepsy.  As epilepsy can be treated  how, I dont know, Im not expert    I suppose you can seek on it if nobody knowleable answers.

The real problem would be if its say, a tumour growing.    Against such there is no sure defence.

If your vet isnt knowleable on epilepsy, you can perhaps find another vet whom is.   Phone and ask if they are deeply knowleable with it, before you visit...

Hi   Not an expert but have experience. If you can video tape the event all the better for the Vet. Jot down the time incase they become more

frequent. There are different seizures some more intense than the other. Clusters are light groups, grand mal are much more serious. (google)

paddling (with paws) ending in defecating. Best thing experiencing any seizures right now is grab a towel or small blanket wrap her

not to tight holding firm close to your body this way cat is protected from injury is also comforted when coming out of it.

Vets will do blood work to try to determine the cause. It can also be from inhaling toxic vapours or ingesting something toxic/poisonous.

Be alarmed if they increase or last for more than a minute. If so Contact emergency Vet clinic asap. Be prepared to take her in.

Long term medication is pheonobarbital. *It's awfully stressful scary in the beginning!  you will both feel better after you get

her meds

To diagnose epilepsy, EEG and MRI are relevant, among others.

The technique itself is available and is quite common in humans (lot of info on the net).

However, the difficult point is to understand the imagery, not to get it.

EEG can be perhaps read by a regular vet, but MRI is special - perhaps requires a specialitiy.

For EEG, it is essential is to have a health -status in order to compare. Scientific way to get this baseline  here, although referring to kitties only:

====

I saw a crisis of a collegue of mine and the reccomandation was to put a pillow beneath his head to avid injuries (shocks could be very serious since the head movements are convulsive).

Hi everyone thanks a bunch for the input. Yeah when she has her fits. Afterwards is the worse. Because she runs around the house like a lunatic smashing into everything. Thank goodness its mostly their cardboard castle she destroys. So wouldnt cause damage by smashing into it. Yeah we are going to watch her a few more days to see if she has any grand mal ones or just petit mal or clusters. This way we can be certain how serious they are and such.
