Hi, I posted on this website before on my own cats Tyler and Gracie but now I'm curious to know what coat-type my brother's and sister-in-law's cat has. She is between 17 and 18 years old and she's got green eyes. Her name is Hazel because of her eye color. I have a few pictures here. I am curious to know what coat-type she is

It's hard to see from these pictures but she does have a big black stripe going down the middle of her back

Hello jdwns12, from your not so clear photos and your description of a black stripe going down the middle of her back. It is likely that she is a Mackerel Tabby. To put it more accurately, She's a DSH Brown Mackerel Tabby.

Tabby is not a breed but it just describe the color pattern or sometimes as a generic term used for any cat's as in hound for dogs.

Hazel's cute gal and kind of tiny for for a 17 year old.

I agree with above.   The photos arent that bad, I can see what they are supposed to show on a good monitor at work. But on my so so monitor at home I didnt saw much, that is true.   :)

DSH means  domestic short hair.     As she has green eyes, I was pondering if she is a tortie of some sort.  As torties has often green eyes.  But nay, it doesnt seems she is tortie.  She is reddish at some place, but it seems to be sooner warm brown, or perhaps rufism, not real red spot.

Hi Tabbytom:
Thank you so much for your reply. I know those pictures of Hazel I took weren't that clear. My sister-in-law, Danise, sent me four more pictures of Hazel, but I'm sure that's not going to change the designation you gave her as to what coat coloring (type) she is: DSH Brown Mackerel tabby. I'm sure that's still going to be what you say, but here's a few extra clearer pictures of her so you can really see what she looks like.

Hi Stefanz,
Thank you so much for your reply. I sent a few more pictures to this thread of Hazel that are a little bit clearer. I'm sure it doesn't change the designation that both you and Tabbytom gave her coat-coloring (type) being a DSH Brown Mackerel Tabby, but just in case, I sent off a few more pictures for you to look at that my sister-in-law took with her cell phone camera.
