My cat Pixie had extensive dental work done yesterday (10 teeth removed!) and they used some kind of eye lubricationg drops while she was anesthetized. It left a sticky greasy residue on her face that doesn't wipe away with water or dry cotton pads. She is wearing a cone for two weeks while her mouth heals, so she can't groom herself. You can see some of the oiliness above her eyes in the picture. Any suggestions for something safe that will help clean up the sticky mess?

You could try a warm wash cloth.  Otherwise, I would call the vet and ask them.  If it isn't bothering the kitty, I also just might inclined to leave it alone.  At the next vet visit, they might assist in helping to remove it.

I hope your sweet one recovers quickly.

How is Pixie's eye doing?  Did you manage to find a suitable cleaner?

Hibiscrub is an excellent, gentle, clinical cleanser for pets (and humans).  It's disinfectant and antimicrobial, with a mild, peasant smell.  It lathers up a bit like liquid soap.  You just use it as you would soap with a clean cloth and tepid water.  You can find it most places, check it out online.

Warm water with salt, preferably pure sea salt but any salt will do, is the first port of call for cleaning wounds, and is applied with a cloth or cotton wool.

Also, I've started using "waterless animal shampoo " to freshen my cat, Dudley's coat.  My previous cat, Brian, was super clean and always grooming, he smelled divine.  However, Dudley's a ragdoll and has long, silky fluff, which is very hard work for him, and I notice that he doesn't smell like a summer meadow like Brian, but more like a fusty old box, containing unidentifiable bits & bobs, that you might find at the back of your garage.  The shampoo works a treat.  As an example here is the one that I bought:
