I am trying to help an area rescue find a home for a sweet cat I met Saturday at an adoption event. The cat is still with her owner, but the owner has lost her housing, and is being forced to give the cat up. She's a tortoiseshell, about four years old, and most people seem to want kittens. The rescue people are doing their best to place her, but they are so overwhelmed that no one is even able to offer a foster home right now.
I get upset at seeing any homeless animal, but this cat's story was particularly heartbreaking. She is already traumatized at the loss of her companion and littermate, who someone in the owner's current living quarters tossed outside one day, and who never returned. She was clearly frightened at the adoption event, breathing heavily and trembling, but she welcomed the attention when I stoked and petted her. I was in tears, right there in the store.
If anyone in the Memphis, TN area can help this cat, or knows someone who can, please PM me, and I will give you contact information for the rescue. I would take her in myself, but I already have six, and my housemate will not allow more (she's right, of course. Six really is all we have room for.)
