Ok, so I found this Sheba canned cat food, the ingredients are pretty good and it is grain free. I am on a budget and this is affordable for me. Anyway, the one concern I have is that it isn't certified by AAFCO and I was wondering what it is missing? Thanks!

Sheba chicken entrée paté:

Chicken, Chicken Broth, Meat By-Products, Chicken Liver, Poultry By-Products, Natural Flavor, Minerals (Potassium Chloride, Magnesium Sulfate, Calcium Carbonate, Zinc Sulfate, Iron Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Copper Sulfate), Guar Gum, Added Color, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Fish Oil (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Vitamins (Choline Chloride, Thiamine Mononitrate [Vitamin B1], Vitamin E Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride [Vitamin B6], Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex [Source of Vitamin K Activity]), DL-Methionine, Salt, Taurine.

Hi! I'm currently considering switching to Sheba, too.

I just came across this in some of my research. It seems that AAFCO does not certify any pet foods in any way. All they do is set standards, which the food companies then have to meet. Here's the AAFCO site with info on it: http://petfood.aafco.org/Nutritional-Labeling

Thank you so much @permanentruby ! Do you know if Sheba has met those standards?

Hmm..I actually haven't been able to find much about what exactly their standards are. I should mention, I'm new to this, too! I just got my first cat a few weeks ago.

But, based on what I've read elsewhere on this site, Sheba seems like a pretty good option. My vet also told me yesterday that a lot of the mid-range brands are just as good as the expensive ones, and not to pay attention to any claims of being "premium" or anything like that.

I've found this pretty useful, as far as figuring out what to look for in wet foods: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/what-makes-the-best-canned-cat-food

There was another one that someone else on the forum linked me to earlier this week, but I can't find it now! I will let you know if I do.

Thank you! It seems really hard to find some of the info on AAFCO. I appreciate you looking though! :)

Not sure exactly but I do think it's like Cesar's for cats as far as actual product. My cats all had horrible diarrhea after eating half a package.

Sheba is a good food.  It is similar to Fancy Feast Classics.  I feed it to my boy regularly and he loves it.  Does very well on it and has shiny soft fur.

Maybe they have changed the formula since then. It was at least 5 years ago I tried it. They didn't have the halves when I tried it

I gave my girl Sheba pate last night and holy crap she has never eaten up a wet food so quickly!!!

Yeah, it seems that there was a Sheba formula years ago that was incomplete. Maybe that was the one you tried!

I bought a can of chicken and a can of turkey pate last night for my girl to try before I buy the perfect portions packs (I wish they just had packs of the 3oz cans, but oh well). Holy crap, I've never seen her enjoy a wet food so much!!!

My kitties also love it! That always makes things easier.

Mine love sheba. One won't eat anything else. Just keep an eye on the ingredients, that seems fine.

If it turns out the Sheba isn't what you want for your cat, maybe try felix? I was hesitant to feed mine felix at first due to bad comments I had heard previously. After querying with a vet, the food seems to be great. My cat loves it, and it has done far better than both whiskers and Sheba. It's cheaper aswell :) sorry I couldn't answer your question though

Thanks @bexj1234! I will look into it, but my kitties are pretty happy on Sheba.

What's going on with Sheba flavors? I usually order mine online because Petsmart and Walmart are too far away from me, but some of the flavors seem to be disappearing. My cats liked the chicken & tuna, which first went up in price at Amazon and Chewy and is now completely unavailable. The seafood flavor also seems to have disappeared at Amazon recently. The price of the ocean whitefish & tuna has gone up considerably so I'm worried about that going away, too. Is Mars phasing out some of the varieties?

I think back then, Sheba came in square plastic tubs and they weren't nutritionally complete. My cat at the time hated that Sheba and refused to even lick it. They've since changed to Fancy Feast style 3.5 ounce cans. My current cats like the pate varieties. I wish it was around when my first cat was alive because she was very finicky and didn't like even the super premiums like Blue Buffalo. I think she would have liked the current Sheba.

Only problem with the tiny cans is its not enough to satisfy my cat. I buy the medium cans that look like the cans tuna comes in. For now buying a different food for Kabby is out of the question since he's on a special food for kidney stones (not crystals) but I do periodically add a bit of Indy's food to his so he isn't board.

I began to purchase Sheba 3oz. cans from online retailers because my local supermarkets carried only the Chicken Entree and Turkey Entree recipes.  I was able to get the Cod & Shrimp recipe and the Beef Entree online.  The stores never stock those two flavors.

A lot of the Sheba items are pretty decent, I was researching switching to them but the containers are so small! I prefer a 5.5oz can since I have multiple cats. The pates & perfect portions don't have crappy ingredients! Another issue for me is this brand is hard to find, I don't even know who sells it
