Hello everyone, I live near Oxford, in a town called Witney in the UK.

I have a cat, Millie who is 5 years old in May this year. She was a rescue cat who we got recently.

Over the past two days she has been acting really strange, not eating, not going out - she doesn't even seem to have the strength to jump on and off the bed like she normally does and looks very lethargic. She was being sick yesterday but only saliva was coming out not food. I have noticed that the left and her right of the mid body seems a little bumpy, and it feels like her belly is swollen.

She used the little tray today to have a wee and I have gave her some water but tried her with a little salmon but she ignored it which she normally wouldn't.

I really don't understand what is going on, this is totally out of character. She is a active cat who lives in the country, catching mice, rats and even small rabbits. I cannot understand what is happening.

I have attached all her details with her injections, vac over the past five years but i know she has not been wormed for five years.

Could anyone else help me to find out what is going on here please, I really need help.

I should add that she has been spayed when she was young. She has been drinking water this evening but not eating and she has used the little tray to wee once.

She may have an intestinal bacteria or parasite or something more serious like a blockage. she really needs a vet especially if she not even drinking water.

Hi, and welcome to TCS. I'm sorry it's not for a happier reason :alright:

You need to get her to a vet asap. She sounds very unwell to me. As she hunts, it's possible that she's eaten something she shouldn't have. Another possibility is that she has an internal blockage. Whatever the cause, this is an emergency. Call your vet now and get her over there. This CANNOT wait until after the weekend. Quite apart from anything else, cats who stop eating for as little as 48hrs are at risk of developing hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease). That alone can kill if left untreated.

I really hope she's ok. Do keep us posted. Sending you both a ton of :vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes:

Thanks for everyone's concern last night, we took her to medivet not long after at 10:30pm last night. Unfortunately Millie had to be put asleep. The swollen stomach was due to her kidneys becoming enlarged as she had been poisoned. We think it was anti-freeze and we don't know how she even ended up that way. The vet straight away at medivet wanted to scan her and gave her morphine straight away, the scan showed massive damage and enlargement of her kidneys. We paid for bloods to be done but it was so far gone there was nothing they could do, we had no choice but to put her to sleep to stop the pain. So heartbroken, never thought anything like this could ever happen plus she was not even five year old.

Oh no :bawling: I am so sorry to hear this :alright:

Even though she was only with you a short time, she knew just how much she was loved, and loved you right back every bit as much.

:rbheart: Rest in peace Millie, you gorgeous girl :rbheart:

My mum is at present lobbying parliament about antifreeze, she's very good at what she does and won't give up til the law is changed.  There has been at least 10 cases of suspected intentional  antifreeze poisonings in her village in Devon and a further 20 or so around nearby Tavistock in the past two years.  Brian died the most horrible death imaginable there last March, and my next-door neighbour lost 2 beautiful cats.  I'm deeply traumatised and think I always will be, Brian was my whole world.  He sill is.  I really hoped that I'd find some good news on this thread, having just written to the person whose beloved Maine Coon was found dead today.  I'm heartbroken for both of you.  Please find a friend in me if you need one.  Lots of love

I am so sorry to hear this sad news about Millie. You must all be in shock. Antifreeze is such a dangerous substance, and people are so careless about what they do with it. On behalf of the moderators I offer our condolences. In keeping with TCS practice I shall now close this thread out of respect for Millie. One day, when you are ready, I hope you will open a thread for her in the ''Crossing the Bridge' forum, where you can write a tribute for her.
