Hey. My 10 months old kitten was spayed on Monday. The wound looked fine, but now there is a slight leaking. It's transparent with a touch of blood. Now, the vet is closed until Monday but upon my request, he gave me his phone number to call in emergency. I am not sure if I should call him or not just yet. The area isn't red or swollen or sensitive, kittycat has her appetite and as active as could be (even too active if you ask me). I might be just overly worried.

The vet didn't give us any instructions for home. I have no reason to doubt his medical knowledge, but the problem is that he is not chatty, not even about related subjects (I literally have to go there well-prepared with a list and if I ask something he gives a professional reply but he would not bring it up himself). Anyway, he's a good vet but in the sense that he is okay for this place. Not the kind of ideal professional with loads of extra information. But generally speaking, where I currently live, he is just what people have a demand for, someone who does his job well but wouldn't lecture people about how to care for pets properly. Anyway, I didn't come here to complain about our local vets :p

Long story short: Bonnie acts perfectly fine, but her incision line is leaking a bit, transparent fluid with a tiny amount of blood. I guess it's due to over-activity and she might have licked it while I left her alone for some minutes. No swelling or redness. Area isn't hot or smelly. Should I rush to the vet immediately (IF he receives us at all at the weekend) or just keep monitoring her until Monday, when they are open and can have a check-up if necessary?

She didn't let me take a photo of the wound now (to wiggly and active at the moment), but that's how it looked like after the surgery

And here's Bonnie herself.

Hi searched online unless hot red or swollen the majority has had nothing become of this.

Best to monitor call Vet regular working hours. It looks nice and clean, you

can google to view other photos to compare with to give you an idea, infected ones as well.

Bonnie is Beautful

Clear liquid with a touch of blood is normal. As is  a lump at the incision site from inside swelling. About this time you'll start to see some redness where the sutures enter the skin, that is part of the healing process too. You have that wonderful image as a 'before' use it to compare for changes. The area might feel a little warm, but that is because it is shaved. If you are still concerned on Monday do get another image and send it or bring it in to the vet so they can see it. Pay close attention to how she is acting, if she quits playing, eating, or drinking, call. Signs of infection include green, yellow, or mixed fluid that is thick and smelly, extreme redness at the site and very hot to the touch. Internally you won't be able to tell except by her behavior. I think she is fine, but a vet's opinion is always comforting!

Hi B bonnieflora we had our9 month old spayed on the wed before last, we we're told the the incision site may swell from the inside layers and that was normal as long as there was no puss& redness or bleeding , but the first day the stich line did leek a littel blood.
But from there she continued to get better and I think as Di and Bod said that's the key.

Thank you all! It's my first time owning a cat, and my first experience with spaying, so I am anxious to do everything right. :)

I kept monitoring her during the weekend, and we did have to go back after all because the incision wasn't healing properly on one end. The vet removed the stiches, saying that most likely they caused irritation and she was licking/pulling them. He gave her antibiotics, too, and we're to go back on Friday for a check-up.

We're home now and I am watching over her even more intensley then before, like some strict jailer, to ensure there is no licking. That goes quite well but she is totally restless.. I removed everything that she could jump up to (except for my bed to which I built "stairs" so she doesn't have to jump), but now she she is jumping up at the door, and randomly while running around. Honestly, I am thankful that cats spend so much time sleeping. Otherwise, that amount of activity would be hard to live with.
