I have a foster kitten about 8 weeks old. He went for his vaccines and deworming 3 days ago.
After he was dewormed I've noticed that his "business" was softer than usually . I just thought maybe it was the deworming or the food ( I got different food , never used this food before so have no idea the quality of it ) but now I'm getting worried . His stool is watery and he can barely keep it in ( he starts when he is still busy digging) I've been giving him something for his stomach ( got it for a previous litter that had diarrhea ) but it does not seem to be working. He is eating a lot ( like a lot ) he has been drinking water and he is really playful .. He also got tested for FIV and was negative. He seems fine I'm just really worried about his stomach. Never seen a cat that was this bad. He even got some on my wall ( That's how watery it is ) .. My transportation is a little low at the moment and the nearest vet is a little far. Just want to know what I can give him to help a little until I can get him to a vet .. ( will give the medications name soon ) I know its an antibiotic and a brown paste in a tube that help with the stomach .

A home remedy you can try is pure canned pumpkin. No pie filling! Try a teaspoon twice a day or something and increase if needed.

Also, try give him a really easy-to-digest food: boil chicken with nothing added, and make some white rice. Give him meals of shredded chicken in the boiled chicken water broth (no bone!) with some white rice mixed in. This is not a balanced diet, but fora day or two, it may help settle his tummy until the vet can get him on the proper meds.  Since getting to the Vet is difficult, can you not simply CALL them since you were just there?

BTW, adding the pumpkin to the above should not hurt anything

Thank you guys for the info and help [emoji]128522[/emoji]. Last time my kittens had diarrhea the vet just gave the same medication over again even tho it didn't work the first time.
I will try the pumpkin and chicken with rice [emoji]128522[/emoji] and get to the vet as soon as possible

How is his appetite? Still eating? Poor little thing!
When you get to the vet, please inquire about
a fecal float to check for parasites/cysts (cysts of parasitic nature, like eggs), and, if possible, a full blood panel. Also, if his appetite has diminished and/or he is vomiting, please inquire about an x-ray or ultrasound (to check for intestinal disease processes, such as IBD, or blockages from constipation or foreign bodies).

In the meantime, pure canned pumpkin or even pureed squash (orange) baby food (NO spices, stage 1 or 2)is an excellent anti-diarrheal.
A bit of shredded chicken and some egg yolk would not hurt. If your eggs carry salmonella (or you are unsure), you should cook them first. I don't advise rice; even though it is gentle, I tend to avoid grain, especially with a kitty with digestive issues. I don't think it would hurt, per se; it's just my personal preference, being that kitties are obligate carnivores. You can mix all of the above ingredients together, and even create a semi-pate by putting in a food processor.

Hope your little one gets well soon!

He eats like a little monster and he havent vomit yet.
I find it really confusing. Usually when my kittens had tummy runs they wont really eat much or they would just lay around.
This little guy goes crazy. He seems healthy and happy until he needs to use the litter tray.I dont think it is worms for he got dewormed with Tri worm medication. Poor baby couldnt make it to the litter tray this morning and dripped a little on his bed. I will be taking him to the vet on monday. Vet is fully booked today and closed tomorrow. I am only allowed to use that vet (Foster) .His stool is really watery like if he is peeing on it but he is not. I have never seen it this bad before. Usually its just pasty. This is going to sound disgusting but you can hear when he uses the litter tray. He doesn't really seem uncomfortable or in pain.. Thank you for the help I will be giving him all that this weekend to see if it might help. I also give me royal canin digestive soft food. ( I hope that's okay )

As far as his diarrhea goes, not just worms can cause it. Other parasites/protozoa and viral/bacterial issues can also cause diarrhea, such as coccidia, giardia, salmonella, panleukopenia, FIV, and FeLV. A fecal float can help pinpoint any underlying issues, especially bacteria and cyst parasites. A more extensive fecal examination (fecal smear or fecal centrifugation) can be performed, if an underlying cause is not found in the float.
It is really important that the cause for the diarrhea be corrected, as dehydration is a real concern when dealing with a kitten with the runs.
Cats can, and do hide pain, and (especially kittens)can decline rapidly, when ill.
I do hope your darling gets better soon! Diarrhea is, well, uncomfortable, and gross!

He was tested for FelV and FIV. I would like to know if food might cause it? His stool got pasty after he got his Vac and deworming and then I got new food that I never used before and it just went down hill from there. At first I thought maybe it is the deworming because I know that causes diarrhea but it went on for to long and now I'm just worried it might be something worse. I gave him Canines (it's a brow paste that helps with the upsets) I also gave him Gastropect to harden it a little as well as Flagyl suspension... But it just seemed like it made it worse so I stopped and now it is staying at the stage where he can barely make it to the litter tray.. He drinks a lot of water so I'm glad about that. I don't want him to dehydrate aswell

Diet can play a role in digestive issues, especially when dealing with an animal (or person!) with a sensitive GI.

That being said, cover your bases and see your vet, since diet is just one of many (and, sometimes easiest to cure) causes for diarrhea.

You should still rule out other underlying conditions, like bacteria/parasites/protozoa, or IBD/bowel disorders.

Glad to hear he is FIV/FeLV negative!

Thank you. I am taking him and his brother to the vet on Monday. Brother has a watery eye. I don't know what the past was like for them . Got them at 6 weeks. I just hope the vet doesn't give me the same medication. Last time it didn't work and they just told me to give it again and then if it doesn't work to do more test. I don't want to wait any longer. Poor baby

Be assertive. Polite, but firm. Let the vet know you are very concerned with the diarrhea and would at least like them to take a look!

If you REALLY want them to take you seriously, get a poop sample and bring it with you!
On the day you have your vet appointment, and as close to the time you need to leave as possible, grab a gallon plastic ziplock bag. Gather the FRESHEST poop sample (the nastier looking, the better), using your litter scooper to collect the specimen. Take care to avoid getting any of the sample on the edges of the bag, so you can zip without issue. Put bag inside another bag and zip that one as well.
No, they probably won't use the specimen you collected for testing, but it shows that you are serious ("Hey, I collected it for you; the leadt you can do is test it!"), and they can use the sample to see the consistency of the doodie. They may be able to use some of it for some tests (float and maybe centrifugation), but will also want a "clean catch", using a swab into his little pooper, for more specialized and "non-contaminated" (poo is contaminated, but what this means is not contaminated by outside sources, like litter boxes or ziplock bags) tests, like smear tests.

Thank you so much for all the help. I will definitely do that.. Poor baby he just used the litter tray and pooped everywhere he went. At least not on the floor but dripped everywhere in the litter tray and he still tried to dig. This must be so horrible for him

But I am still taking him to the vet on monday. I gave him antibiotics as well as probiotics for a week and it seemed like it made it worse . But im just glad that he is having improvements

If his stools are taking shape on that bland diet, than it may be the food you were feeding.  Can't say for sure, but it's possible.

Antibiotics can cause diarrhea themselves,
Taking probiotics during can help but after is more likely to return intestinal flora to normal.

That's wonderful
Now, remember, if you are only feeding him the chicken and white rice, with a little pumpkin added in, that is NOT a 100% nutritionally complete diet, so you can't feed him that for too long.  He needs a balanced diet, so his diarrhea may return.  WHAT were you feeding him before?  I'm thinking it was his food and it may need to be changed.
