I am giving Miralax 1/4 teaspoon once daily to my 18-year-old cat.  She has constipation and a kidney infection.  She will be taking Zeniquin for the infection.

Is it best to give Miralax in the morning or evening?

Does anyone know if Miralax could interfere with Zeniquin?  I think it might be best to not take any chances and give one in the evening and the other in the morning.

I would split them up but it doesn't matter what time of day you give Miralax.

My cat was recently prescribed Miralax 1/2 teaspoon twice a day in his food. He has constipation most likely cause by the Lasix he is on for his heart. When I questioned the vet about exactly when to feed it to him he said it didn't matter. Just mix it in his food each time I feed him. He also said if his stool ends up being too loose to decrease the amount. So I think you are safe giving the miralax whenever.

The correct way to give Miralax to a cat is to dissolve the vet recommended dose in a spoonful of water and then add to canned food. Some people like to add a little extra water to the canned food, too.

Miralax works by drawing water into the digestive tract. If you just give the dry powder, the Miralax may end up dehydrating the cat because the powder draws even more water from inside the cat. If you read the Human directions on the bottle of Miralax, it says to dissolve the powder in a full glass of water or other liquid before drinking, not take the dry powder as is or sprinkled onto food. This is to prevent dehydration in Humans. Cats and other pets are no different, IMO

Thanks for the recommendation. I wish the vet would have known this. He definitely was saying just sprinkle in his food. I sometimes add a spoonful of water to the wet food as is. This makes so much sense!
