Hello, I have a 4 month old female Manx cross kitten. When I first got her, she had really fluffy hair around her ears and eyes. Now, in the last week, she's lost almost all her hair in the area between her ears and eyes, and she's constantly scratching at it. She had ear mites 2 months ago but they're resolved now. Also, she has discharge from her eyes. What could this be? I'm really worried and my parents say it's not a big enough issue to take her to the vet about.

Common causes of loosing hair:

Allergies, Parasites (fleas, mites, lice etc), Ringworm infection (this is a fungi, not a worm), stress.

Still, some cats just don't have to much hair in that area (as far as I am informed).

Does the cat scratch himself very intensely in this area? You said she did, but how intense?

Apart from loosing hair, is anything else not-as-usual?

Drink? Food? Activity? Poop?

Is that the only spot she loose hair?

Did you de-wormed the cat recently?

===

What was the treatment for mites? Mites are very elusive and aggressive.  One cat I know got them because of... something, nobody knows. That was an indoor cat, treated for mites some two months before re-infestation. The only cat in the household. We suspect that was from a vet cabinet her owner visited and she got the mites on the blouse and carry them home. Looks very un-belivable, but that was the only hypothesis we could forge.

===

My personal opinion is that you better go to the vet. There are to many risk factors to say "its a normal think- lets wait".  Could be even more costly if you wait.

The one who care the cat day by day is the one to know. And from what you said, you are that person. Trust yourself.

She scratches at her head almost constantly for minutes on end and usually doesn't stop until I distract her with something else. Every single day, she loses more hair in that area and it's almost completely hairless there now. Aside from losing hair, she's completely fine. Also, I just recently de-worm the cat (she actually got the second dose today) but she was losing hair before we gave her the de-wormer and she's still losing hair. As far as I can tell, that's the only spot she's losing hair in at the moment.
For the ear mites, the vet prescribed us antibiotic ear drops that we applied for about 2 weeks until they were resolved. We found out that she got the ear mites from her mother (who was an outdoor cat).
I'm going to ask the vet about it when we go in for her booster shots next week!

It sounds like an allergy. One of my guys had a similar issue last year and was treated with prednisone and an antibiotic as he had scratched some skin off as well. I'd have your vet look at her.
