65 Years on the Throne

The Queen of England has been on the throne since I was one year old. I think she has been an amazing queen. She is now officially the longest-reigning British monarch.

Isn't it called the Sapphire Jubilee? That's pretty cool. 

Yes, it's her Sapphire Jubilee, and look at all the sapphires she's wearing. I was in the fourth grade when she was crowned. The teacher in the room next door was British, and she had the radio turned on very loud for the coronation. We could hear it in our classroom. There were no satellites in those days, so it was a long time before the coronation films were developed and sent over the Atlantic.

For being 90 years old, she looks fantastic.  The dress and jewelry are gorgeous but it's her face that is the best part of this portrait.  She's really lovely.

She's been on the throne my entire life - the mind boggles at the thought.
