My 3 yr old cat won't stop scratching his head between his eye and ear. I've taken him to 2 differnet vets. He's had a biopsy which came back normal. No ear mites, allergies, fleas or skin problems present. Has anyone else had this problem ? I'm running out of ideas - although it doesn't seem to bother him I just don't want to see my fur baby scratching his lil head any longer :( .. it's been too long trying to resolve this. Looking for any thoughts or similar experiences. Thanks .

My first thought would be a food allergy. In pets, food allergies show up as skin allergies. What foods are you feeding? Many times cats that are on a kibble only diet develop allergy issues because kibble is loaded with things cats can't digest like corn, wheat, soy, and other starchy veggies. Switching to a high protein meat based wet food diet can help, or if its a protein allergy switching to a novel protein.

Have you tried an antihistmine under a vet's supervision?

Thanks . We did do a hypoallergenic food trial with no change. We also did an antihistamine shot and cream .. also no change :(
As a last resort we tried a medication trial .. although the scratching wasn't as frequent, he was still itching at the same spot ..

I had a cat who did that. We started giving her a daily dose of Claritin and after about a month, she completely stopped the scratching.

My Basil developed a similar itch.  I had changed fabric softeners.  Once I switched back to the old one, he was fine.  My two rainbow babies, Sandra and Thomas, were also sensitive to the fabric softener used.
