@Angels mommy     Your hair looked great... and your "Pooh Bear"  is a real hunk!!! OMGosh.. be still my heart.. if only I were a bit younger....

I bet your hair would still look good short.. but you have to find the 'right' stylist.. I am very fortunate; my hairdresser really knows my hair, cowlicks and all...and she knows how particular I am about my bangs ~~ a bit shorter is better because I wear glasses and my hair grows like a weed...
LOL!  I know, I'm 47 now & that seems so long ago!   Thanks, I do have a great stylist, but my hair is better long. It's too much work short because of the weird, not good waves.

Thick & wavy does not make good short hair for me.  The cow licks were in the front, so that's why I styled it the way I did. Trying to "work w/ them."  I had to use a curling brush back then, just to smooth it out every day, but still have body. We weren't really using flat irons back then. This was after I worked as a stylist there at an Aveda salon for 5 years.

I remember when a lot of women were wearing their hair about that length.  Your pooh bear is about the same age as my ressie pieces cup. She's grown, married and divorced already and I'm just over here like...but I'm only 22 right!?
She's my cousin's daughter.  Back when she was a tot she learned to brush out my hair; which was always long.  She once styled it with qtips when she was 8-9ish.  Now shes gone to school for hair herself. I forget what the program was called. She wants to do my hair and makeup the next time I visit. She's promised no qtips.

LOL! Now that's a picture i'd love to see!
I know what you mean. At 47, I see so many half my age who have been married, & are again for a second time, & I haven't even done it once! But honestly, I wouldn't want to have gone through that either!
Do you mean she's in cosmetology school?

@Norachan  love the color..i am aiming for a bit darker with purple tones. And I LOVE your curls!!  I just love that color! It goes good with your skin tone.

The long pictures above were without me brushing it-I had it in a bun  it curls like crazy but within half an hour it goes straight. One night I slept with the hair in the tightest bun I could manage the next morning my hair was super curly..why can't I get it to do that with a perm?!! I think I would have to use 2-3 rods each hunk of hair but I know that's not how it's supposed to be done. but I may try it because I am crazy that way. So also if I keep my hair in a bun all day it's still soaking wet after all day when I take it down.

Normally I don't brush it when it's wet because it snarls. I have to wait until it dries. I can't use a hairdryer otherwise it fizzes and looks horrible then tangles in the brush. I just lean up against the oven at work and it dries. I have more curl if I cut it short and layers are 4-6" long. I love the Farrah Fawcett look. that's what I am always trying to get but my hair is what I call thick because there's a lot of it but the strands are thin.

I have had my hair long since I was 25ish. I am almost 42 and I just don't think I could go with a short cut-when I say short I mean like a men's cut. It would be easier to care for but I still have to wash it daily. I am or rather people say I blessed with super oily pores/hair and if I go a day without washing I have a 3" oil slick...mom kept telling me that's good because I won't wrinkle..not sure if she is correct. I can't wear makeup because it looks hideous on me-I have super large pores and makeup makes it stand out more. so I just use that abrasive scrub 3 times a week on my face to give it a good scrubbing otherwise pores fill up with oil and yucks..oh to have small pores and baby skin. I did find a skin cream by Clinique specially made for oily skin=it's a yellow cream-I have to get some more..been using drug store face cream and it's just not the same..

My mother had smooth skin up until her death at 63 and I inherited her skin and body type but got my dad's skin tone with burning in the sun, his temperament and drive and attitude LOL.

So do you ladies have strange hair habits and makeup? Am I the only one who can't wear makeup? Eye makeup makes my eyes burn...I can feel invisible gases coming off the mascara even the stuff from Clinique. I have no skill doing eye pencil-as much I drew I just stunk at eye makeup but I know how to layer it to get effects-it just doesn't look good on me...so I envy the ladies who can wear perfume and makeup...my body too sensitive and it's annoying...but hey I can dream right?

Both my parents had good skin; and always looked younger than their years.. I take after them.. my skin is smooth, not many wrinkles, and really never had acne issues.. I do drink a ton of water. I think that helps also..

I am allergic to cosmetics also..

When I was in my early 20's, I had a severe contact dermatitis on my eyelids and lips.. it was horrible, itchy, fish scales, red, ..

I went to an allergist who said it was from cosmetics.. at that time he suggested Clinque.. but also warned me that some of their models were breaking out from the formula.. I did use their cosmetics for years.. I found a few sparkly eye shadows did make my eyelids itchy..

I also found out that Clinque's main house was Estee Lauder...

I then stopped using their line.. and went to Physicians Formula.. that was a drug store thing.. but they were bought out by Almay.. and Almay was trying to become more popular..

I switch to Prescriptives.. I know they are also in the same house (family) as Clinique and Estee Lauder; however they appear to be more natural.

I wore Prescriptives for years.. I still have some of their powder and blush.. I am now at the time in my life where I do not focus on eye make up...

I use Burts Bees for lip color.. I mostly use the lip stuff..

I have terrible allergies so, natural is best for me...

With a little background in skincare, I have to tell you Clinique is awful! Has bad ingredients. I remember years ago when I was working at the Aveda salon, another natural skincare line we carried gave me an ingredients list of some of the "popular" brands. I do remember they actually had acetone in some of the toners! Yuck!

(Plus, I hate the way the sales girls wear white coats, mentally trying to subconsciously fool you, when they are neither an Esthetician, or a Dr.!)

When I was doing skincare, if someone couldn't afford the salon stuff, I'd usually recommend Almay, mostly because of it also being known for being hypoallergenic. I would recommend the same to you guys for that reason. You always want to make sure it says hypoallergenic & noncomedegenic, so It doesn't clog pores.

I used to also recommend Neutrogena, especially now that they have a natural line, but I recently found out through a change.org petition that they test on bunnies, so I will no longer support Neutrogena!

The "Simple" line is good, and I think specific for sensitive skin. Burt's Bees is also a good one, although they have come out with a lot of new products since it was one of my accounts at the co-op I worked at yrs ago.

I think the Aveno line is a good one too. I use their CC cream in light. (& as a plus, you can find all of those at walmart, or the drug store!)

Okay I'll bite, what is wrong with Estee Lauder.  I use their skin care, foundation and blush.  I have weird skin.  I still don't have perfectly clear skin even though it isn't oily like it used to be.  I am 61 and last had perfectly clear skin when I was like 10.  I have tried several different brands in the past and Estee Lauder seems to work the best of the ones that I have tried.

I am not an expert, or have even worked in the cosmetology field. I mentioned Estee Lauder as an example of non-hypoallergenic line of cosmetics... I do not know anything about it.. I never tried it at all..

@foxxycat   Prescriptives is expensive and is found at the high end stores: i.e. Macy's...

Almay, from my recollection is not as hypoallergenic as you would think. It was years ago, but then the company was sold and it became more mainstream...

I think it is a personal preference and an allergy preference.. what works for you may not work for someone else.. just my opinion.

True,  I agree, but I always encourage label reading for sure.

I don't know anything about estee Lauder either. I have not used it, and It has been years since I have worked in the field.

I will have to look through my office, & see if i still have any info. I know the natural make-up company I order from sent me a list of other companies "mineral makeup" ingredients and just because it says it's mineral, doesn't mean it's all natural, or has great ingredients.  Like as an example, there were a couple who had an ingredient that is actually fine ground up plastic!  To create a smooth look, I guess??

Back when Bare Minerals came out, I tried it, thinking it would be good for my skin & help keep it clear, but it broke me out!

The foundation & blush I use is from a company I brought in when I was a buyer at the co-op. They don't carry it anymore, but I still order from her. What I love is that she custom blends a foundation for me.

I was between one that was slightly too dark, & one that was too light, even for as fair as i am, so she blended them for me. It's a mineral line. The owner has a background in cosmetology & nursing. She teamed up with a local Dr. & they created the line. They have since parted, but she still does it. I just call her & order directly from her, since we had a relationship in the past when I brought it into the store.

In fact, I will need to order more foundation soon, so I will be calling her, probably within a couple of months. It's great stuff, & last. I get about 4 refills out of one refill bag. That's filling my little jar about 3/4 full, so I only order about once a year. ;)

Here is a link to her site if you are interested.  You will see "competitors ingredients" in the list down the left side of the page. This is the wholesale site, but it gives a retail address at the top scroll.

She provides some good info!

Yes, I have many strange habits when it comes to make-up and hair. And skin care and soap and cleaning products too. I'm really passionate about cruelty free. I carry a list around in my wallet of "Good" and "Bad" companies and I won't buy anything new unless I've checked it off on my list and then double checked it online to make sure that company really is cruelty free.

I used to buy Body Shop products until they sold out to L'Oreal. I know BS products aren't tested on animals, but if the parent company still fund vivisection that's just as bad in my book. I know Lush products are Vegan and Cruelty Free, but they're a bit too strongly scented for me. They're also really expensive in Japan.

I recently found out that the company that make one of my favourite face creams, Eau Thermal Avene, aren't Cruelty Free anymore. They've started selling to the Chinese market, so even though their products aren't tested on animals in the rest of the world they are tested on animals in China.

@Denice  That's the problem I have with Estee Lauder. They used to be Cruelty Free, but now fund animal testing in China. It makes me furious when companies do that. People spent ages campaigning against vivisection and companies listened to their customers and stopped doing that. Now they're ruining the reputations they spent so long building up and losing customers in the rest of the World just so they can sell in China. Doesn't make any sense at all.

Products I like are Paul Mitchell, John Masters Organics and Aveda Be Curly. There are some good Cruelty Free products available in Japan. Chifure are a good one, so are Kao Brand soaps, shampoos and bath products.

The word Kao means Face in Japanese, but it sounds like Cow so they have a cartoon of a big Friesian cow on their packaging.

@Angels mommy  I think Aveda are Cruelty Free, aren't they? They're on my "Good" list.

I will get the otherside next..don't mind my huge plaid shirt-it's cold out and I just love my men's plaid shirts.

don't mind the rope on the side=was trying to get the hair all in the picture-I haven't brushed it this morning-I stick it up in a bun then brush it out later-I just haven't gotten to it yet.

ok got a few more

sorry about the oatmeal in the way-this one shows the color a bit better.

I took one in the mirror but it didn't come out good.

I know what you mean about not brushing it out yet--long hair takes time!

She'd kill me if I posted the whole picture! :lol3: Its in an album. I'm not sure what specific program she was in. She was working with ethnic hair for a bit. She's considered mixed I guess and her hair & features favor her father; especially her hair texture. She must have decided that wasn't the field for her and shes moved on to new adventures in a different city. She might not have finished the program itself. Her mother has the same talents but also doesn't use them as a career. My uncle and his brothers were/are barbers. He used to cut my hair when I was a kid. My cousin would crimp it or tease and spray my bangs into shapes. :lol3: :anon:

I have very oily skin and I can't wear makeup more than 9 or so hours before it would run into my eyes and burn!! I also have adult acne and I never found a foundation that didn't break me out. (Not that I was willing to spend that much!) Ive also had trouble getting my skin tone right. I am fair with a nice yellow green undertone. I tan well but I also burn. So I only wear eye makeup and only when I'm leaving the house. I have makeup remover cloths from Norwex that I love. Proactive has helped my acne but I'm noticing some nice improvements with some Posh products too. My BFF got into them after her 2nd time with cancer. They seem dedicated to using natural ingredients and are made in the usa. They don't have makep though.

When I asked about Estee Lauder I was kind of afraid it had something to do with animal testing, I was really hoping that it didn't.  When I finish what I have I will have to start looking for something else.

I have been looking for products and there aren't that many.  The only complete line that is widely available that I have found is Physician's Formula.  They are cruelty free, do not sell in China and are not part of a company that does.  They are working on becoming vegan but they aren't completely vegan yet.  I am not really concerned about that though it's the animal testing that bothers me.
