Hi everyone, I am writing this because last night I had an awful and terrifying experience.

Last night I was visiting my mom with my 3 month old kitten. I was helping her put laundry in the machine, and Nova, my kitten, loves to play in heaps of clothes so I always check the machine to ensure she didn't climb in. After I checked she wasn't in there we were putting the softener pellets into the compartment and they fell on the ground. We picked them all up so that none of our animals or any kids found one and decided to chew on them and I left the room, leaving my mom to start the machine.

About 5 minutes later, I went looking for her because I couldn't hear her bell. I started calling her name and she always always moves when she's called so we hear the bell. But I couldn't hear it anywhere, I rechecked the laundry room and didn't see her, so I kept looking in other areas of the house. After no luck I went back into the laundry room and just saw her little face inside the machine. I felt frantic, I took her out and I was screaming and running upstairs with her in my arms. My mom quickly took her and gave her brief mouth to nose, but luckily she was breathing. She was also seizing and freezing cold. We rushed to the vet where they took her immediately. This was around 6:30pm.

I was in a panic for over 2 hours, it was the most unimaginable experience I've ever went through. And just I kept just picturing her little face in that machine. It was torturous.

They couldn't get a temperature read on her because she was so cold. After about 45 minutes they got a reading on her body temp of 19c. (The normal is 38.5c). Her pupils slowly became responsive, but were unequal, which can mean head trauma. They also told me she had bruising above her left eye. She also had a slight amount of fluid in her lungs, and a cracked tooth.

We received some positive feedback after about 2 hours. We left the vet office around 9:30pm and returned to visit her around 11pm. At this point her outcome was looking much more positive, she recognized me immediately when I approached her. Shortly after that they let me know that brain damaged may be ruled out, because she only had a minor contusion. The water in her lungs had been reduced significantly. At 6am this morning they called me and told me she was going to be alright, and I could pick her up at 8am. She is on antibiotics, and some pain medication. She will be checked out again this week and hopefully everything will remain good.

She is currently in high spirits, she was also eating. She's even used her litter box twice, and was playing with toys. She's quite tired but she's resting and being her cuddly usual self.

***ALWAYS ALWAYS, check your laundry machines, even dishwashers and dryers.***

Thanks for reading

OMGosh..... what a scare!!  man, this is something you read about, but to actually go through an ordeal like this is so frightening...

I am so glad Nova seems to be ok... wow...

thank you for reminding us about the hazards of animals and washers/dryers....they can always sneak in when our backs are turned..or not even turned...

((hugs))

keep us updated as to how she is...

What a horrible experience! It's so fortunate that you checked again and Nova is recovering. Mega :vibes: for her.

I've read a lot of stories about cats trapped in washers or dryers and am a bit paranoid about it, checking on his whereabouts before turning on the appliances. Our last cat liked to climb in the dishwasher, so that's another one to be careful about.

They just love little nooks. She's been playful most of the night so our emotions are pretty high down here :)

Im also collecting bottles, and anything that can help with her vet bill. We started a gofundme page although I'm not sure how I feel about that, but if you were interested in sharing it around, it also has a link to the fb page we started there's a bunch of photos of nova and all that :)
