Jessica Simpson, stupist person in the world or 1 smart cookie?

Thread Starter
Jessica Simpson was at a dinner at the White House yesterday. She told the Secretary of the Interior that she had done a fabulous job decorating the White House. She asked the Secretary of Transportation to pull the limo around front so she could leave!

What a dingbat. Either she was so protected growing up because of her carreer that she never had to learn about life or this is one elaborate marketing ploy.

What do you think?

Sigh, I voted dumber than dirt, because I fear that its true. But I suppose one can always hope that it is just a brilliant marketing ploy, because you really don't want to believe that anyone can be that stupid.

dumber than dirt

I don't know if this ditziness is a publicity ploy, but it is so bad that she is NOT a good role model for young females.

Where are the good role models when we need them???
Never heard of her, but she sounds like a ditz.

Jessica Simpson is a very blonde singer.

Here are some quotes she said on her tv show 'Newlyweds' - hope that gives you a better idea of how stupid she really is!
I watch Newlyweds, I think she does say some really dumb things, but the worst part about it is that she actually thinks she is cute when she says those things. Have you ever noticed how she acts when Nick makes fun of her? The thing she said about the buffalo wings that time they were on vacation was the worst, she thought they came from an actual buffalo..... She grinned from ear to ear when they all informed her she was wrong. I would have been embarrassed (sp?)!

Its because of her reactions that I think this is all a marketing ploy! I mean, NO ONE can be THAT stupid

Not on TV or in the music industry, apparantly, Kellye !

Whatever one it is, it sure has gotten everyone to talk about her! I think it is a mix of both, dumb and brilliant marketing!

(yes people can be this dumb....I know a few of them, and sometimes they do it cause they think it is cute, other times...they are just stupid! It gets very annoying after a while)

What kind of music does she sing? I've heard her name once or twice, and at the risk of sounding like an idiot, I thought she was a character on the Simpson cartoon show (which I don't watch) lol.

I saw a picture of her just tonight on a promo for one of those entertainment tv mags, since I looked up when I heard the name.

she sings pop music, if you is a link about her there might be some songs, I don't know for sure?
I watch Newlyweds on MTV and can't believe some of the things she says.
I often wonder if Nick(Husband) cringes knowing that the world hears what his wife comes out with!.
She is the most dumbest person .. I've seen the Newlywed show and couldnt stand her.... She is a spoiled little millionaire brat who doenst deserve the attention. I dont know what her husband sees in that ... The only thing I can think of is that it is a marketing thing, by acting dumb on tv.. Similar to Anna Nicole Smith!

I detest Jessica Simpson and turn the channel any time she appears on t.v. I also detest the whole dumb blonde sex pot thing, but let's face it people, it sells. I voted for brilliant marketing ploy. I don't think she is controlling her own fate, I think someone else is doing it, but look at the money she's making!!! You can't all that dumb!
Tigger you took the words right out of my mouth!
I watched an interview with her husband one day and he said she's actually a very bright person, but doesn't think before she speaks? lol

I voted dumber than dirt. Anyone else see the show where she was eating Chicken of the Sea tuna and says "well I don't get it, is it chicken or tuna?"
Dumber than dirt. She doesnt even know how to unkink a hose... pfft lol
post #19 of 28
I think it's all an act , it got her attention once and she started doing it all the time.
I wouldn't pick any of the choices. I think her stupidity is an act to make money. I wouldn't call it brilliant though.
I am not voting on this one...but

I believe she has a beautiful voice and I love her music. I always have! As a role model, she stayed a virgin until she was married to Nick. If that's not good enough for young women these days, I don't know what is. How can anyone judge her? No one knows her except her family. So if her husband says she is brillant...than I would take his word on it...with the whole chicken/tuna thing....who cares?! I probably would have said the same thing....I guess that makes me dumber than dirt too...oh well, that's someone's opinion...I am happy and very smart...that's what matters.

Now, I am not being mean about this at all...but once again...just my two cents worth

I am kind of freaked out when I see her sing. The way she moves her mouth and hands when she sings just is disturbing. Well not disturbing in a bad sense, more of "what is she doing with her mouth and hands?" The more you want to turn the channel the more you want to see what she is going to do next.

I guess staying a virgin until one is married is good but if that is the only thing a woman should aspire to it just seems wrong. Which of course brings me to the other point. Why are female role models expected to stay virgin while such a demand is not made for male role models. Seems to go to the discriminatory point that woman who sleeps around is a slut while a man who sleeps around is a stud.

I actually know someone like this in real life. She is also a blonde and thinks she's cute and adorable when she says and does the stupidest things even when they are extremely selfish and self-centred. Needless to say, I have nothing to do with this person.
Has anyone seen the commercial with her and the buffalo? I can't remember what it's for, I only saw part of it in passing. It's freakin' hilarious. At least she's a good sport about her dumbness.
Honestly I think she's probably a ditz but was smart enough to realize that if she played it up and play good sport about it a lot of people would think it was cute.

I don't even know the name of the song but one of her videos has her eating the Chicken of the Sea tuna and grinning. I do think it's a cute video but a little contrived.

And I gotta say that I was a little confused by Chicken of the Sea Tuna at first too. But I figured it out after I took a bite...that's what gets me about that whole incident she was eating it and had to ask!
ok...then is it tuna or chicken? I think it's tuna...????

'It' Girls Work Hard at Playing Dumb

Britney Spears (search) hasn't heard of Yoko Ono. Paris Hilton (search) thinks Wal-Mart sells "wall stuff" and Jessica Simpson (search) doesn't know her tuna from her chicken.

All of these head-smackingly dumb comments have left fans wondering about the brains of these beauties. But are they really dopey, or just purposefully blundering all the way to the bank?

Pop culture expert Nancy Snow leans toward the latter theory.

"People at that level are always 'on' — they know what they're saying," said Snow, a communications professor at Cal State Fullerton. "I think it's kind of a sweetheart deal between them and the media. It really helps to feed the publicity machine."

But not everyone believes these starlets are clever enough to plan their intellectually challenged images.

Spears' ignorance of John Lennon's widow led to media mockery; Hilton, "The Simple Life" star, was accused of being simpleminded; and Jessica's apparent cluelessness (she thought Chicken of the Sea tuna was actually chicken and believed Buffalo wings were made of buffalo meat) even led some to speculate that she might be illiterate.

"While watching all 10 episodes this season, it became clear that Jessica can't read," Stephen Falk, who recaps "The Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica" for the Web site, told The New York Post. Simpson's publicist denied the claim.

Snow thinks the ditzy behavior is a throwback to an old act, a la Lucille Ball.

"They're not the first women to do it. George Burns' wife [Gracie Allen] always played the real dummy. It garners a lot of attention, and these are major attention-seekers," she said. "And it's funny — ditziness takes a lot of intelligence, timing and slapstick humor."

Glamour magazine deputy editor Alison Brower said it's unfair to judge the IQ of these women on a few isolated comments when their success speaks for itself.

"I don't think you get to be where Britney is without knowing what you're doing and being very smart about it," she said. "She's calling her own shots in an industry that's still mostly male-dominated. And Jessica was pretty hilarious in ‘The Nick & Jessica Variety Hour.' She is obviously a strong comedic performer."

Brower added that the performers' blunders — real or staged — have only helped to increase their time in the spotlight.

"The tuna thing, [Jessica] just turned it around to take that show to the next level of popularity. And Paris turned a negative moment into a positive," Brower said, referring to the public release of a videotape of Hilton having sex with her ex-boyfriend, a scandal that only seemed to fuel ratings for her reality show.

Then there's the fact that what the masses consider everyday knowledge is not necessarily commonplace to young, rich superstars, who spend their time drinking champagne in limos and sailing on yachts in the Caribbean.

"Simpson said she didn't grow up cooking. There is no Wal-Mart in New York City, where Hilton grew up," Brower said.

As for Britney's Yoko no-no, Snow called it a "generational difference."

"Ignorance is not the same thing as [a lack of] intelligence," she said.

But there remains the question: Why do people seem so eager to point out what's lacking in these young stars?

Brower blames the public's general ill will toward the rich and famous.

"Why do people feel compelled to attack Martha Stewart? I think it's envy — schadenfreude," she said.

Snow agreed, citing a classic dilemma of beautiful women.

"These women have sex appeal and beauty — there's no room left for brains. Imagine how threatening they would be if they were smart on top of it."

But whether the ignorance is feigned or not, New York City resident Mary Prabhaker, 23, said there's no excuse for it.

"I think it's really sad. My brother's little friends look up to these women as role models. For them to put out this kind of image of themselves, it goes back to the olden times when women didn't have strong personalities," she said.

Prabhaker said playing the dim-witted damsel is OK when you're 16, but that Britney, Paris and Jessica — all in their early 20s — have a responsibility to know more.

"So many little girls grow up and think you just have to look good — that's the message they portray."
