One day in March a handsome Persian black kitten came into our lives and we named him Neeko.  He had the most stunning copper eyes and was our little black bundle of fur.  He was my introduction to why I love the Persian breed.  Unfortunately he was left behind but fortunately for us he joined our family.  We adored him and loved his personality.  He was 12 wks. old when we brought him home and he acclimated extremely well.  Neeko set the stage for the other two Persians that joined us in the years to come.  At the time our youngest daughter was not in school yet and the two of them bonded over tea parties, Sesame Street, Full House, and lots and lots of hugs/kisses. View media item 404968

I love how they always seem to know when I need a laugh.  They always get all comical at the exact right time.  And then they look at me.  It's like they're thinking, "Did it work?  Did we cheer Mom up?"  It's pretty perfect.

How I love my baby Sophiesaurus. She's my feline soul mate. She's silly, sassy, playful, curious, so smart and very brave. She's also super loving. She loves to snuggle with me and she's my purr monster. She's the one who wakes me for breakfast using any means necessary including standing on me.

ENTRY--Today is all about Princess. When she was born, Princess was the runt of the litter. (That's not to say she was small, just smaller than her siblings.) She can be cuddlesome and playbody, and switches between the two without warning. She loves to play, to hunt, and to torment her brothers. (Asia she pretty much leaves alone, unless she's cold. Then they'll snuggle together.)

This is Princess, trying to decide if she wants more food or just to leap into play!

Entry - This is about our foster kitty Gerry Garcia.  She is about 8 months and has decided recently she is too old for a bedtime.  Fluffy isn't always nice so Gerry is safer in the kitten room at night.  Lately she has een running from DD when she goes to get her for bedtime.  DD has to chase her all around the house no matter how late she lets her stay up.  When I get home from work in the wee hours, there's Gerry standing by the screen door of the kitten room looking sad.

Fluffy has been nicer to Gerry lately but Gerry has started bringing Fluffy's favorite wand toy downstairs trying to find someone to play with her, I figure her days are numbered and Fluffy's 'ninja paw of death' will strike again.

This is for Robin. She's a very smart 9 month old and is learning not to play with yarn while I'm working with it. She takes a couple swats, then will curl up about a foot away, keeping an eye on what I'm doing. She plays fetch instinctively -- we didn't try to train her, she just does

She's just so danged cute!  She has a tiny white patch under her right front leg, and if she's lying on her back, and I touch it and say "white spot in your arm pit!" she gets all huffy and stalks off.  If I just touch it, and don't say that, it doesn't affect her at all!  Go figure!

why I love Sassy Josephine

She doesn't look like much. She is at least 6 years old, and had given birth at least once.

I cannot go to sleep without her.

Sassy Josephine was one of four feral cats I noticed in the local Lowe's garden center. Employees told me they were forced on penalty of getting fired to stop feeding them. As I am unable to watch a cat starve, I trapped them and relocated them into my yard. Three of them stayed there for a year, then disappeared. Sassy Josephine discovered the cat door. I got a chip-operated cat door to keep her out, since I had promised not to take on another cat. She endured a very cold winter outside in a styrofoam box shelter. But I am weak. I took out the batteries of the cat door, and tried to gradually introduce Sassy Josephine to the rest of the gang. It didn't go very well because she hates both Oberon and Grisou. They still fight several times a week, with Sassy using her voice as primary weapon. She thinks she has authority over Oberon, and thoroughly scolds Grisou when he gets close, but her tolerance to them is slowly getting better.

She is one of the smartest of the bunch. She prefers humans to cats, because humans might have a treat.

Sassy saved me when the Rogue died. I couldn't go to sleep without holding a living cat. She since comes to my bed when I call her. She has been seen spending whole mornings in my bed.

She also likes running after me like a puppy, hunting the wand or thrown toys like a crazed kitten and helping with digging up things in the garden. She is now quite ball shaped, because she likes to eat. But I am unable to restrict her - a vet told me last summer she might have a tumor in her ear which turned out to be a simple ear infection, and while I know she won't live forever I would at least like her to enjoy every single day.

Carleton was feeling a bit left out because I was talking about why I loved my other cats so I promised I would post a pic and focus on him today.

He has a new endearing habit and it's just one more reason that explains my love for him - he likes to sit on feet and shoes!  He must think he's a Saint Bernard, lol. View media item 405196

I love that Connor and Murphy accepted Mickey so quickly.  It took them less than a week to stop hissing at him and now you would never guess that there was friction to begin with.

That picture was taken 6 days after Mickey joined the family.

I am so proud of my cat, Shadow.
This was his home before Mittens joined the family. He was so comfortable here and spoiled from the very first day. He could have kept his new home and family all to himself, but he let me know that he wanted a kitty friend. I could just sense it. I was hoping I was not wrong when I brought Mittens home. I knew almost immediately that I was right. Shadow welcomed Mittens, even though it took Mittens a little time to warm up to Shadow.
One month later, Shadow and Mittens were best friends. They share everything from toys to cat beds to people beds, even eating from each other's food dishes. They both use the three litter boxes. Shadow acts like Mittens protector, always making sure he is okay and no one is hurting him.
They are best friends and "brothers" in every sense.
I am so proud of my two boys and love them so very much!

Rocket and her belly are todays entry. She loves to show off her little white belly to the world. She even likes to get it rub from time to time. I love that she went from a feral kitten to an adult cat who trusts me enough to show me her belly multiple times each day.

I also love how much Rocket loves her fish tank. She will seriously stare at it for hours on end. Link and Fury will look at it occasionally but Rocket absolutely loves it and has since she joined our family. And she will stand on her hind legs looking at it until we put the chair there for her.

She likes to creep under the covers while I'm sleeping and brush her whiskers against the backs of my legs!  Talk about a wake-up call!  LOL...it seems like I'm listing mostly annoying things here, but for some reason, they just make me love her all the more!

When I cry I get lots of kitty loves.  Mickey will curl up against me and purr.  Connor and Murphy take turns pawing my tears away and washing my face.  Cat breath - yum!  LOL.  But it's so sweet I can't stop them.

Today is about Rose, the mother cat. (She's living with IB in Virginia now, and doing well.) She was our first cat, and the one that had to get past my natural reluctance to deal with cats. (I have a long and sordid history of cats attacking me, starting with a barn cat at four years old--me, not the cat--that attacked me so badly my head still has the scars from it.) My introduction to the kitten didn't help much. It consisted of IB (who had brought her home from a cat-thick house full of humans neglecting her and cats bullying her) telling me I wouldn't even know she was there and five minutes later cleaning up the carpet because he hadn't realized she needed a litterbox. (To be fair; up to that point we'd only had dogs, and they'd all been housebroken to go outside.) So, she had a lot to get past. Luckily, despite the--tepid introduction, she was sweet and friendly. What really turned me around, however, was the day I was reading and she jumped onto the book I was reading and just looked at me like, "Well! Pay attention to me!"

And she'd occasionally take a nap on the book. (Here she woke up before I could take the picture. The dollar bill is to give size comparison.

And here she is, hiding in my library bag.

And this is Rose, in her new home, happy to, once again, be an only cat.
