Hi there,

Looking to get a bit of advice for anyone who might have had a similar experience. My cat suddenly became ill 3 weeks ago as she was barely eating and seemed extremely lethargic. She also had a fever. When I took her to my local vet that morning, she was alarmed at her pale gums and immediately ran some blood work. She was anemic and her PVC/Hematocrit was very low- 16%. She referred me to an animal hospital as she figured she would need a blood transfusion.

The Animal hospital still could not figure out what was wrong and wanted to keep her over night for more tests. They ended up doing the blood transfusion that night as her PVC had dropped to 13%.

Even though she tested negative for FeLV back in 2013 (she was about 2 or 3 when I adopted her, they couldn't say definitively since she was a stray) the Hospital threw in the test for good measure and she came back positive this time. They determined her anemia was non-regenarative and she would become transfusion dependent. However, they still could not figure out if the FeLV was causing the problems in the bone marrow. (I guess the oncologist who reviewed her case was confused by the results being produced?). They wanted to run more tests on the bone marrow to figure it out but she had already been there 3 days and I was not for any more tests (they mentioned she had a bad reaction to the blood transfusion and I did not want her to suffer further). When I took her home, her PVC was at 18%

She seemed okay at first when we brought her home but after a few days, she stopped eating all together and became lethargic again. Desperate, we decided to try a holistic vet who (based on a patient of theirs with similar symptoms) recommended a drug called LTCI by T-Cyte.

There is very little information out there on LTCI and I was wondering if anyone has had any success with it? The cat at my current holistic vet has lived for 7 years on it. I decided to try it as there is not much time to lose. My cat has had 2 shots so far, she takes the 3rd this Sunday. She is still pretty weak and did start to eat a little bit again, but it can be a struggle. I'm not sure when I should start seeing improvement (if any). Her last PVC test was at 16%.

Thanks in advance!

This story is familiar. Are you on the FIP Fighters Facebook group because I am.  I saw your labs and gasped out loud. A HGB of 2.6! Wow!  I am guessing FIP is not off the table. Can you tell us what LTCI stand for? Do you have any other labs like albumin and globulin? But I am seeing you say FeLV is positive.
