I brought in an outside cat that I was feeding.  I could pet her and pick her up briefly outside by the "diner".  A new male came and was chasing her and she would disappear for 4-5 days.  I trapped her and brought her in about a month ago.  She has been in my bedroom mostly hiding behind the curtain or under the bed. She will come up on the bed with me.  She likes to be petted but at any sudden movement or noise she flies under the bed.

The last couple evenings I brought her out to the living room with my other 6 cats. ( She was already familiar with them since they had come into the bedroom from time to time)  She sat on the couch next to me for a while then went and hid in a corner.   The other cats sniffed her and then ignored her.  No hissing or growling.  One cat was grooming her.

She just seems so scared.  She is about 3.  I know she will probably not be a lap cat, but how can I help her get over being so scared?  I know it will take some time but any suggestions will be welcome.

Believe it or not, she's already made a ton of progress for a feral! Thank you for taking her in where she is so much safer.

I would block off hiding areas under furniture where you can't really interact with her and provide new hiding places, like a covered crate or cardboard box. This is a great step by step guide for acclimating frightened and feral cats to life as a pet: http://bestfriends.org/resources/socializing-cats-how-socialize-very-shy-or-fearful-cat. You may not need to do all the steps as she's already comfortable with some things, but you can adapt it how you see fit.

Sometimes interacting with other cats helps the socialization process, but some cats are just as wary of other cats as they are of people. It sounds like she might take some time to warm up to other cats given her previous experiences, so just focus on getting her comfortable and trusting of you for now. Later you can use the trust she has in you to demonstrate that she can also trust the other cats, but it's easier to focus on one part at a tine right now.
